3 dollar character fee was always the fee, i dont know why it is coming at such a surprise to people.$3 per character is completely crazy.
Like everything else that sucks in this game, its born out of them making a priority of cutting down the RMT. Surplus, Market Wards, Gathering Fatigue, leve limits, 4 trade slots, no mailboxes, server lag caused by encryption and verification of every action to Japan -- All anti-RMT measures that have made this game suck. Instead of learning their lesson, they're at it again with this pricing model. Good luck with that.

I'm very happy with the billing being reduced, even without I still would have paid my monthly fees.
Combine that with the 180 days payment, it's really cheap.![]()
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)

Pleasently surprised by this announcement.
I now take bets on the date when a "Occupy official forums" thread is created to fight this oh so cruel 3$ per extra character charge.
Just gonna say, the discount is nice I have no problem with that and I will pay it.
But as a new player to this game, the paying something a month per character slot seems crazy to me. I don't think I have seen another p2p game that uses this kind of logic. (if the game was f2p I would find it acceptable)
I know you can do all the classes on one character but a lot of people like to make different characters for other reasons.
But as a slight counter argument, you could make 10 characters on WoW, each one being a different class and then you have effectively "maxed every class" by only paying the base cost, and you can still make another 40 characters.
Also I remember when I first started this game and I logged on and was confused at why it wouldn't let me create a character, because you have to "buy" one first (even though you get it for free). That whole process was just really confusing and sorting out my debit details with click and buy was a pain in the butt.
I have spoken to friends about the weird payment methods with this game and it takes ages for me to explain it, and they all think it sounds terrible.
So yeah, I think it should be way more simple in my opinion. This current system is not very approachable, its like the rest of FFXIV everything (including payment) has a steep learning curve :P.
Any ways I know a lot of you disagree, but thought id voice my opinion.
Wow= Hold alot of Characters.. Setback? Yep 1 Character = 1 class thats it so you have to make a New Character just to play a different class.. and if you wanted to level up the classes? well tough you have to do it on 6-8 different Characters
FFXI ~ FFXIV= 1 Character does it all Charging per Character is def. spot on. and also less confusion @.@
Just a question for people currently using the Crysta payment method, are you able to purchase crysta directly with your CC/Debit card and will it automatically ding you every payment period? If I can, I would like to avoid using Click and Buy again. Glad for the discount, even though I personally would have payed the original set price, but I will take it.

Does anyone else find it mildly frustrating that people seem to parade around that "3$ was always the fee, what are you talking about?" when not a single one of us has paid a single penny for a single day spent ingame thus far...?

3.00/char and 1.00/retainer has always been the projected cost since....sept 2010? THEN they decided not to make us pay so obviously we never payed a penny. The knowledge has always been there though. It's your own fault for being ignorant if you never realized it until now.

I know people feel clever when they state facts people tend to overlook, but really? Like everything else in this game, your projected cost was a decision born from a mountain of bad ones, which they are struggling to rectify. According to your logic, Richard, we should still be paying full price since you're stuck in 2010. Apparently, I'm not the ignorant one! But it was known since Lodestone started.
I think it was also known before Lodestone started
