If I recall correctly it used to rain very rarely in Eastern Thanalan as you would expect but as there were things that required rain in the area (cetrain sightseeing log entries) that were nearly impossible to get without camping out for days they increased the frequency of rain. It does make a bit silky though I agree. Would have been a better idea to ease the sightseeing requirements in my opinion.

Dunno, I like that it rains a lot at Camp Drybone. It adds character and a little bit of humor to the game in my opinion.

the statistic on this site: http://en.ff14angler.com/spot/30301

says it rains 20% of all time in Eastern Thanalan. 15% Showers and 5% Rain, that's indeed quite ofter for a place called "Drybone" ^^
also 20% Fogs or Clouds, wich means only 60% of all time is actual sunny weather.

but yes, because the weather is tied to the sightseeing log and some fish, it's not so simple to change the weather patterns. it would affect some gameplay elements.

Just blame Leviathan being summoned and then Shiva which just caused more messed up weather conditions to occur on the dry desert <_< oh and don't forget Bismark, see all that water based aether enters the atmosphere and eorzean science says it changed the weather patterns to make it rain more in the desert >_>.

Actually the number of Rain (5%)/Showers(15%) weather patterns has stayed the same since ARR launched. What was changed was that original only Rain (5%) triggered the sightseeing location now both Rain and Showers (20% total) trigger the location.

There was always a 1/5 chance of it "raining" but most of the time it was the windy rain weather known as Showers.

Get these type of threads when people either don't know or don't care about the lore of the game.

It's kind of easy to forget about. I was only reminded of that fact doing one of the 50-60 gathering quests. I think it was the fishing one. Until that moment, I had totally forgotten the Calamity had such serious effects on the regional climates.

Well Lexia, given the quests in Camp Drybone specifically tell you the reason for the area's name is due to it being so arid, I feel that according to the lore of the game, the area should be arid. I don't recall anything telling me of a recent change in the weather patterns in that region of Ezorea.

It may be you all are right and the rain is there due to the Calamity. In which case, it would have been sufficient to simply have a quest giver mention the change. Otherwise, people are just making up headcanon for a programming error.

I agree. I laugh everytime I go into the Camp and it's raining. It's just so ludicrous. You have NPCs going on about how the people bring their dead there because of the low humidity and it's POURING like 80% of the time.

Well I'm sure there are most likely lore errors in the game that were messed up, omitted or overlooked for what ever reasons. For that is good to know the overall picture if wonder why a certain area the way it is.

Consider this, if you live in the desert you experience monsoon season. They occur around summer time and there can be plenty of rain and thunder storms to be had.
