We all know this isn't FFXI no one is denying that it is an idea that it can be incorporated. As for t he dialog...wow 10 points for creativity and 10 points for sarcasm.
...just imagine this:
Dragonmama: Tell me son of man why should we join your cause? Have you forgotten our hatred towards your kind.
Dragoon: "We neither expect forgiveness nor compassion for our father of the past, however if we are to change the course of our children and break the bonds of hatred we must start some were. We seek not to enslave or use you to for our personal means, we seek your guidance and alliance to face a common foe. "
Dragonmama: "Oh, you speak true as representative of man, but a foolish one It would take more than words to convince us.?"
Dragoon: "So I ask you to judge be my actions and help at a whim when you choose to, If I fail I will forfeit my life with no struggle and upon this blade a blood oath would be formed..."
Dragonmama: "Interesting child of man, it is true you have proven your worth, Yet it is not for I to decide. speak with my children for their fate is theirs alone.!"
Dragoon: "I thank you for the audience."
Dragonmama: "Be warned son of man, a blood oath is not one of mere flesh and blood, for it binds the soul."
At work so not much time this is more of a whim.

You may have noticed that I'm all in favour of your idea to add more chocobo-like companions, but you might have been to blinded with hatred (typical dragoon, really) to respond to that at all - thats okay, after your post history here, I expected nothing else from you.

“I was born with glass bones and paper skin. Every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms. At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep.”
-A Dragoon, probably
Do you understand what a "glass canon" is? Because dargoons aint one...
And how has the Kain-modell not worked well for FFXIV? Kain is THE iconic-dragoon, I like the style very well!
Please, please, please accept for all that is holy that FFXIV is not and will never be FFXI - why is that so hard to understand?
From what I've heard the dragon-pet sucked in FFXI - with being overpowered but also having that longass CD so once it was dead, the dragoon was useless...
I also cant see it fit in AT ALL in FFXIV - neither gameplay nor lore-wise. With the pet dealing a noticeable amount of damage, the whole job would need to be revamped. Dragoon is actually a pretty complexe job, with all the different positionals and what not - you wanna throw micromanaging a pet in there too?
And I said this before: Yes, we ended the Dragon Song War. After 1.000 years. Theres still a lot to do, the game never is that simple. Trust between dragons and us has to be built. The little dragons we see are BABIES by their definition - what you're basically asking is a mother giving you her three year old after you and your people have slaughtered her whole family.
Get a little wind-up dragon minion from the moogles and realise that this is FFXIV and that the dev-team choose a different path for dragoon in this game than FFXI did.
Not sure were you got your information about DRG being terrible. Personally I DRG/SAM on XI and it was a power house if you knew how to link WS properly. As for the Pet dying and then being useless, That wasn't the case to an actual DRG that knows his CD. Second Hello DRAGON WARS, did you happen to do the Moogle Beast tribe quest?Based on your stats I would hope so. Getting help from a Dragon would actually fit in. Spoiler alert: "For Dragon , Moogle, and Man to work as one once again" was constantly used. If they can do a Choco why not a wyvern? Personally I miss having a Pet like that for Dragoon.
I did my Moogle Beast Tribe quest, yes. And I freaking love those dragon babies we're getting help from, but that doesnt change my point that they're basically babies - have you done the last Beast Tribe quest when its all about teaching the little Ohl Deel the dragon cry?
Those dragons are friends with the moogles, whom they've been friends with for those 1.000 years of us killing and fighting them. The war began with a bunch of elezen killing a dragon and since then dragoons have made it their agenda to kill dragons - and now you expect a folk of creatures with memories that exceed our lifespan to just forget about all that and give us their kids as companions...? If you remember the sidequests in the forelands those little dragons cant even HUNT for themself, because they're children - its one thing to work together with the dragons within their homelands, its another thing to take a dragon-baby onto an adventure into the Far East... The war might be over, but the wounds are far from healed. You appear very shortsighted to me, both in lore and gameplay perspective. Introducing a dragon-pet would be mean that the dragoon itself would experience heavy nerfs and a potential rework.
While it would certainly be cool to be able to use all of our mounts (including a wyvern) as companions like the chocobo, that doesnt has to be dragoon-exclusive. And bringing a large pet like the wyvern into dungeons seems not very practical - seeing how small the SMN-egis are...
Its okay that you're missing your pet - but its also okay that this is a different game from FFXI and that the dragoon-job obviously works very differently from the one you were used to.
Said the kettle, Think about it perhaps a growth system similar to the chocobo would work. Start it off as a type of minion, the more it travels with you the more it grows. Based on level would be able to assist perhaps a form of contract or range based that randomly happen. Perhaps at first on world maps kind of how minions follow you around but don't act. How are these ideas short sighted? If anything perhaps adding some type of additional stat effects on minions would also work out temp just harder to level so they take time and dedication. IF I can focus on just relic weps I wouldn't mind grinding an actual pet companion. It's a suggestion and perhaps having a CD later on wouldn't be bad on it kind of a support type like an egi or Mech tools. Now poor in lore, wouldn't that be a nice step to healing old wounds being were talking about the warrior of light? Be creative not negative. Also as a programmer, yes it's a bit of work, yet it is achievable. Being a programmer is a way to express a vision. If I could I would love to see it become a reality.

It does sound like something that could work - but not for dragoon and instead for everyone. Just as the chocobo works for every class. Why would a system like that be exclusive to a class that simply isnt a pet-class? Your idea isnt bad and I'd like to see it added to the game - as a general mechanic to raise a second chocobo-type-companion, not as gameplay-mechanic for dragoon, because as such it doesnt make sense, neither gameplay nore lore wise.
You went from talking about dragoon as a job into ideas that would work better in general and being available to just every class.
Besides your idea isnt as creative and innovative as you may think it is - I've seen several requests to add our mounts as companions just like the chocobo but it appears to be more difficult to add that into the game than you might imagine (adding all those attacks and animations for them - doesnt seem to be like something the devs want to spend ressource on right now). Ans seeing how that would already be a lot of work, why should it be exclusive to just one class that would have to be reworked on top of that?
Say byebye to FFXI-pet-dragoon and make that idea a concept for everyone.
