FFXIV Feels Like the Good Old Days of MMORPGing... (New Player Help!)

Howdy!

I'm new to the game and finding it completely absorbing. It gives me the same feeling of wonder that I had back in my Ultima Online / Dark Age of Camelot days, when the community felt a little different in a little niche gaming genre.

I rolled on Sargatanas, as there didn't seem to be much official difference between the servers as far as style of gaming or ruleset.

I'd prefer to head to whatever server would allow me the opportunity to really dig into the lore with other players and to explore with friendly folks. Though there's always a contingent of this kind of player, I usually find what I'm looking for in MMORPGs on the unofficial RP server.

Would you veteran players who enjoy the social aspect of the game (and avoiding dummies in the process) point me to a good-natured server of players who enjoy the game rather than disrupt it?

I'll pay my $18 and head over there tonight if there's a consensus.

I think Balmung is the unofficial RP server. However, it's the most populated so expect queue times in peak hours / patch days / Stormblood release.

Gilgamesh is the unofficial raid/hardcore server I believe too (with Ragnarok being its EU counterpart and Chocobo being its JP counterpart I think), all of the other servers seem to have a bit of everything, though perhaps some more than others.

Thank you--I have a feeling I've finally found the MMORPG that I want to live in again. It's been a long time, and I'd like to set down roots in a likeminded server. I really appreciate the help!

I would expect queues to potentially be an issue for Stormblood or the release of major patches, but normally queues aren't much of an issue, even during peak times. I generally never log off, but even if I feel I need to, I do so without fear without ever even glancing at the clock.
