As for the items, they will still be around and remain in your inventory for the forseeable future, but you won't be able to actually obtain them eventually.

The changes I've been talking about should be hitting this coming patch. There's a handy list of what will be coming in 1.20 and what will be coming in the patch after that in the latest letter from the producer.
