    Meracydia?

Just a question... How is it? I know about their conflict with Allag, but I'm wondering about the present. Will be visitable one day? Are living people there?

Right now, I imagine Meracydia as an abandoned land, with no people, just the ruins of old civilizations, a lawless land where wild rules. You know, like Gran Pulse in FF13. Am I wrong?

When we discover the followers of Sophia, Urianger mentions their Meracydian dialect, implying there still lives people there. The lorebook supports this stating that there are areas that has been repopulated. Going by the artwork presented in the lorebook, presumedly depicting meraydia, i would image your picture of the area is not too far fetched. Tribalistic cultures living among the ruins of a burnt civilisation.

The people living there are reclusive and most likely hostile due to their environment. The reason for our lack of knowledge of the landmass is due to the dangerous nature of the people.

I think we certainly will go there, maybe in 6.0 or later. 5.0 seems reserved for the Ilsabard landmass and 6.0 was hinted at being Old Sharlayan- which is too small for an entire expac imo. Perhaps 6.0 is the big "small island exploration expansion" with meracydia being the main landmass.

Seems like a good a place as any to just drop a quote:

While some areas remain uninhabitable even today, those which have been repopulated remain recluse and very rarely welcome contact with the civilizations of the northern hemisphere, ofttimes attacking any who approach, whether it be by sea or by air. Because of this, very little of the region is known, including even the most basic of geographical information.
That said, if I remember correctly, there are mentions of trade expeditions to Meracydia, so they can't attack any and all who approach, apparently.

Most of what we know revolves around the Allagan invasion during the Second Reign of Xandes, but there are several (11) references to more modern trade with the southern continent. Meracydia exports diamonds, samite, and sesame oil in exchange for rubber, quicksilver, electrum, and gnat antennae.

More info about Meracydia can be found here.

I really hope we get to go there in the future. Even better would be to use the Echo or something to travel back in time and witness the Allag vs Meracydia war.
