See, even if I understand that point I find it to be rather weak one:
FFXIV is the only real competitor to the juggernaut that is World of Warcraft, if you really want to compete you need to at least try and match what they do, over the course of their expansion they added new races, improved the old ones, added customization. Now I do understand that is probably easier for WoW due to the different art style, but still, Square Enix is not exactly the indie company developing pixel games in the basement of your apartment building. They have the power to invest in the game, and if ou want to keep old players invested and find new players those are the sort of things you kinda have to do.

If we're about to compare WoW and FFXIV, WoW doesn't even come close to the graphics/detail on character complexity. Their animations are really simple and repeated on combat for different attacks, only things that change are the attack particles/effect. And the amount of work it needs compared to a FFXIV character modeling is way less.

there are things way more important waiting to improve/fix than adding another Hyur-Animal hybird race
and if they going for some very different race, like a beastmen, they would have to model existing equipment, mount, emote etc for a new race, those resource could be use in better way like improving the some CoL thing, big job balance patch...etc

what happens when a Viera equips the bunny ears? questions like that don't have to bother the devs when there is no Viera. so why should they add them? they have to redesign nearly ALL headpieces to fit with the ears. with Aura they were going the cheap way by adding the horns were elezen have their ears, so no redesign necessary, but Viera?

How about the viera are extremely bland to begin with and doubly so in a game already somewhat crowded with human/animal hybrid races? If they're going to add another race, make it something that's actually even remotely original relative to the existing races. We don't need 16 flavors of the same basic idea. This game's races are already too similar, but that's not a good reason to keep doubling down on the same flawed design.

There's a cat ear accessory that works just fine with miqo'te.

Viera ears wouldn't look like fake costume ears.

They were talking from when they first planned in adding a new race (3.0). The reason they didn't add Viera for 4.0 is the work part, and not because it would look like a miqo'te. I'm pretty sure if they ever decide to make a new race, it would be Viera.
