That was the playerbase general opinion. The real reason is, from a developer point of view, it's a lot of work. First, designing both male and female with their animations and also for each job and combat. Then adapting every piece of gear in the game to their body shapes. On top of that, they added new jobs in an expansion, whis is also a lot of work. All that while maintaining your current patches work.
