    Supporting Japan's rebuilding process

[Please players translate this message in German and Japanese]

    Good day everyone.

Each of you probably saw the picture coming from Japan. Each of us also probably felt powerless, unable to transform our desire to help into actions. Japan kneeled down, but it will rise again.

I thought about a way that each of us could use to help Japan to rise again. Our governments handle it, we hope as much as they can. Looking for survivors, clearing kilometers of devastated sea coast, cool down nuclear core, heal injured people,: all that require specialists, teams, organizations. All that is beyond our power.

Then I thought again about Final Fantasy XIV, about the shutted down servers since a few days. I thought that each of us play without paying. In normal times, I understood that the need of enhancements to add content requires a time that most of us didn't want to pay for. I thought then about the economy of Japan, its world importance and to the huge loss created by the disaster, for many insurance companies in the world, but first of all for Japanese people.

And suddenly I thought that paying to play Final Fantasy XIV wouldn't be such a bad thing. That the money collected this way could be partly or entirely given by Square Enix to another organization or any structure that will support Japan's rebuilding process. This act of generosity could be temporary.

Yes, I'm making the proposal to start to pay subscription fees for Final Fantasy XIV. A fee that would make «,sense,», that would grant each of us this feeling that each month we are giving something to the Japanese people, subjects of this terrible disaster, for the pleasure they gave and give us to play with this game. Terms need to be defined. An option to choose to pay or not could be a good start. I hope that Square Enix will read this message and will see in it an occasion to give us, individually, the chance to help Japan's rebuilding process.

Not yet. But hey, if you want to help then donate the amount of money you would have already paid at this point to play FFXIV if it hadn't been made free.

    uh, no.

they don't need money. they can print their own money. it's a government.

if you want to really help out put yourself on a plane and head on over there to donate your time and labor. they can use as much man power as possible to clean up regions affected. i am sure there are humanitarian relief efforts goind on right now for the area.

a 1-way ticket to Japan costs upwards to $1,300+ and that does not cover living expenses, food, and other stuff that atm is severely limited. Going there would be a huge waste of money on your end and you'd just be "In the way" over there using up the little resources they have in this crisis.

If you really wanna support them donate money to a credible organization that is going to send aid their way. I myself dropped $100 at American Red Cross where my mom works just so I can feel that I may have saved someone's life.

Why on earth would they print their own money. That would ruin the value of their currency and flood the already deflating economy. They need money that is currently in surrculation not just make money out of thin air. We dont need another "federal reserve" problem, 1 is enough.

Really you should think before posting.

The best advice I can offer to the OP, sure its a great idea. However paying for a game is not going to help the natural disaster relief in Japan. Your efforts would be best served by donating to organizations who assist with that problem, not a video game. Just bec its stationed in Japan does not mean they have the sole responsibility of helping fix the issue. There ar enough organizations out there where your money would be best served. We want to pay for the game to upgrade it and keep it going. You need to send your money in the right direction. The only thing buying crysta is going to do is help SE not Japan.

Government 101: Printing more money lowers the value of the current note. All governments base their value of the note on gold.

As far as paying for this game. I would say that if you feel the strong urge to donate money then do it by funding a relief organization. And in this case of Argh's argument helping them personally would also benefit them greatly.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we're free to do anything.
