    As the OP of this thread, and several people asking why I personally want the caps removed.

    While there are many reason. For me personally, new gear gets released every few patches. Higher item levels. The problem with this, and the caps, is if you are one of the people. That likes to play with a bunch of different classes so you do not get burnt out. Having a weekly cap just grinds out your wallet for yoru monthly sub, while leaving a bad taste in the mouth. For me anyway. I have always mainlined healers. I got into playing a dark cause i thought it just looked cool, for RP purposes. Most of teh swords are junk though.

    Now, while there may be many different ways to earn gear. I do like to keep it simple and just use one set. I do not like to mix n match sets. So, when you are "gearing" out your classes, it is roughly like this, iirc.

    1 set, tanks + weapons
    1 set caster dps + weapons
    1 dragoon set + weapon
    1 bard set + weapon
    1 ninja set + weapon

    and so on.....

    I have a 2 week vacation coming up in july. Why should I be PUNISHED by being limited to ONE piece of gear per week from here, one over here, and 1 script piece.......I REALLY REALLY want to play all the different classes. But I NEVER WILL, because of this nuetering.

    Now add in the possibility of having to grind older content raids or "something" to get crafting materials or an actual armor drop for glamour. I just spent 3 days grinding final coils trying to get the caster robes, finally said screw it, bought the mats and had someone craft the replica.

    I do NOT care that those people whom are doing savage material have better gear or ilvl than me, GRATS! I always wanted to be on a server first raid progression team, but hey, i suck! No shame in saying it. But I just feel, since we get new ilvl gear every few patches, the caps hurt more than they help.

    Seriously. What is stopping you from queuing into content as Dark Knight if you so desire? Everything outside Savage, Extremes and 24 mans are entirely faceroll. Let's look at the two dungeons released when 3.4 was fresh. Both were set at a minimal ilvl of 210. A set of non-augmented lore gear already far exceeded those requirements. Only Savage provides any real hindrance in terms of difficulty, though even it can be overcome without optimal gear. In fact, a common tactic for statics is to have their DPS gear first, their tanks second and healers last. Therefore, many tanks and healers reached or even cleared A11 or A12 before coming close to 270. What you're asking for has already been included with relevant crafted gear. Allowing for unlimited tomestone farming completely destroys any need for 250 sets, and subsequently, the need to run content associated with it.

    So go, play whatever job you want. It doesn't need to be BiS or have a matching ilvl to your main. I'll be playing both Dragoon and Red Mage when Stormblood launches. One will be weaker but that sure isn't going to stop me taking them both into dungeons, extremes and maybe even savage when we do off-job runs.

    That is why the cap should be moved to a cap per set. One cap you can get as a caster DPS, one cap as a tank etc etc.

    While I understand the issue, I also know that a lock is necessary to avoid snowballing. It's just sad that FFXIV does it wrong since it promotes...nothing really: you can cap within 2 or 3 days at worst and then you got nothing to do for most of the week. You can't even take one piece of armor in your first week (accessories don't count).

    One of my favourite "locking" system was the badge system during tbc, why? Because it promoted effort: you wanted this item for 30 badges? then go do 30 bosses: You could theoretically have 50 badges every day and if you could actually do all of them, you'd be rewarded. I thought it was a fairly nice system although not perfect, and the heroics were much harder than anything this game would attempt (Arcatraz anyone?). The system rewarded your efforts and I liked it.

    For ffxiv...I think it would just simpler if we had a certain cap for each class, which is something I repeat so often that I'll just link what I said in another thread a while ago.

    how about moving the weekly cap from tome reward to the vendor NPC?
    Uncaped tomes, but still only 1 gear each week. This way someone can earn enough tomes for a whole month without outgearing too fast.

    It costs 1000 scrip per weapon plus the 4 alexander cogs........now add the scrip gear to that. It is just an unnec lock out
