There are a variety of elements here that need to be addressed (briefly.)
1. Disparity - Normally the method of competing for claims is the most reasonable approach. Not the nicest nor the most efficient, but it should be the most reasonable. However, due to the build of the game, coupled with hardware restrictions, parity cannot be achieved. Therefore, such an approach is not possible. The playing field is not level as all resources are not evenly distributed (again, hardware, server hops, etc..) Because of this lack of parity there is no solution that can be reached since the variable now shifts to personal ethics.
2. Behavior - The unfortunate truth about the world of forums and MMO is that, for many people, this is their only form of competition - meaning that they take this far beyond the threshold of reason. Some people like games because they allow them to take on the identity of what they wish they could be and what they admire - which is how we get a ton of utilitarian extremists running around behaving like this. Sadly, there will never be any form of retribution that can curve this behavior. The best thing you can look to do is to publicly chop down their ego until they can no longer compete for resources while also causing grievance for anyone that they associate with. But, if you were to do this, it would make you no better.
It sucks-buttocks but the best solution for you is probably to plan around them since neither of these issues are really confrontable.
Anyhow, your argument fell apart with the inclusion of a Lv50 in the group.
