Hi, just hit 30 on my mage and did the black mage quest, now the quest for level 30 gear seems like the hardest quest I have faced yet, can anyone tell me where I can get level 30 gear for my black mage?

On board / crafting / or dungeon. Personally I craft HQ gear and use materia spell speed
Thanks, I guess I will go level my craft then, which is best for mages armor? waever?
Weaver and Goldsmith , they are all easy to level and they have boosted XP on it. Do weekly turn in company HQ for double exp and if you have the gill can just buy HQ version pretty cheap now. Also if you have them leveled you can repair gear in dungeons. If using the crafting try to just level all for cross class traits. Eventually you may want to do all for easier access later on to crafting quest. Great rewards and makes relics easy to obtain later on.

TBH, if you're going to get into crafting you're best off leveling all of them. There's a lot of overlap between the classes (especially when you consider needing to craft gear for the crafters themselves to use), and even if you're solely making gear for your BLM you may need other classes to create secondary ingredients like leather or lumber. Finally, crafters benefit a LOT from cross-class abilities to make HQ gear. You really want to make HQ gear, it's on par with dungeon drops and other such uncrafted gear of a similar item level.
Thanks for the replies guys, my GC is not that high yet, gonna focus on 1 craft at a time for now till I get used to the system anyway.
use another class and farm brayflox for all the battlemage gear when you get to that level.
If you want to skip the crafting progress for now, take a look at your grand company, if your rank is high enough (finish the hunting logs) you can get some level 30 gear from that. Check your market board, some of the crafted gear is around 1-5k depending on the server/demand. Even a level 28 HQ set would be enough, to farm some dungeons after that. IF you have a set from haukke manor, you can keep that till brayflox (lvl 32).
But if you're going the crafting route, I would recommend picking up every crafting profession, then do your crafting log from 1-15, it's faster and cheaper then doing the leves at that level. When you got everything to 15/30 (takes a couple of hours), you can start with crafting leves, pick the ones that take 1 turn in (the old school 3 turn ins for higher exp, have been nerfed to the ground by now and are not reliable anymore). Makes it cheaper and higher exp. Take a look at the ixal beast trial (daily quests that start in gridania I believe). While it's higher exp for higher level crafts, you should not ignore them at lower level as well. Some of their turn ins are NQ items you can pick up at an npc, if you don't feel like crafting it yourself, giving you a couple of levels without any huge effort. Same for the daily grand company turn ins, but I think that starts at higher level, I can't remember.
Note: please do not use the auto crafting function in this game, you want to archive high quality items, because when it comes to the leves later on, high quality (HQ) items give more exp compared to regular (NQ) items. Also during crafting it plays a magnificent big role, so higher you get your rating/quality more exp you are getting after finishing the craft. Some items you can auto craft, for example the level 1-10 nuggets/bars/sands etc. These are not a huge help exp wise if they are not HQ, however they can be helpful to successfully HQ a higher level item later on but by that time, you probably be swimming in these kind of sub ingredients.
Another method would and should be gathering, if you're planning on getting into crafting and don't want to pay an arm and a leg later on, you might wanna pick that up. It makes it easier for you to level your own crafts since you don't have to purchase the lower (not longer in demand) mats via market board, saves you some money and at mid level range, you can actually make a good chunk of gil with that. Most people have moved on to heavensward regions, supplying the mats for much higher level (52+), while the mid range level crafting mats that even the high end recipes still need are ignored. For example, silver ore, I think it's a level 20/25 node over by quarry mill, great for exp when leveling your gathering, you mostly end up with 5+ stacks in a couple of hours. On the servers I play (check your own servers market board), they sell at 5500 (week days) and up to 10000 on weekends, each not the whole stack, now multiply that by 99 x5 stacks and well you see made some pretty change for being low level. Again putting that money towards your own craft or gear and you'll be pretty much set after a couple of days/weeks depending on your play time.
always use food that gives a +30% exp bonus when crafting/gathering, you can find cheap low level food over at the npc in vesper bay till your culinary reaches the level to make it on your own.

Tbh, vendor gear should get you by and to fill in pieces you don't get from dungeons. Most quests also reward gear.
All food only gives a 3% exp bonus, not 30%, but it's still a bonus. There are the crafting/gathering items that do give an exp bonus from GC.
