I had no interest in playing MCH until I tried it since it seemed the most interesting out of the three new jobs. Edit: I guess that means I had some interest but really juggling turrets and managing them did not sound like fun at all

This time, I'm looking forward to trying RDM so I hope that doesn't mean that the opposite'll happen

Problem might be is, if people got used to playing a job in a certain way then you add something that changes the playstyle at higher levels, people might not like it. And would prefer to stick to the way they have been playing at lower levels. But I assume most people know what to expect from RDM.

Man, what is your issue with Machinists?

Let's be real here: Early impressions made people think "BRD with a gun and a pet", they approached it like BRD, expecting the simplicity of it, but found a more technical ranged job and simply didn't understand the job immediately, then shyed away from it, especially with talk of how "weak" MCH was initially. PLUS there was FAR more hype for Dark Knight anyways, so that didn't help it any. MCH was never bad, people's expectations were simply below what was offered, and the transition was a tough one for many.

That aside, if you're looking forward to SAM, expect it to play like a melee. Set rotation(s), a few CC abilities, and you know there's a skill with a cast time. It's not that bad, just consider it a long animation before the hit. They said it's more similar to Monk than Ninja, if anything, but don't try to play it like either of those.

If you're looking forward to RDM, first off, leave XI's RDM behind. You're NOT getting that here. You're getting a ranged magic DPS with some gap closers and melee attacks. Learn and adapt. Staying at range isn't always what you do, nor what you've done all this time. Simply adjust to learn when and where to utilize your gap closers/melee skills.

And seriously, don't be afraid or shy away from a job just because it's technical. A little effort and practice is what it takes to be good at any job.

people were hyped for musketeer since 1.0. until this day there is a musketeer guild in limsa and you can see NPCs training with guns. and then we got machinist instead of musketeer. people wanted a pirate themed gun class, not a new flavoured bard.

i don't even remember any hype for machinist. it all was DRK and later AST, MCH had no hype at all and i don't even saw many right after 3.0 release...

even the horribly balanced AST was played far more at all times than MCH... so it's not that MCH was "too weak", it was the whole style and game design of the class.

You have to remember that in forums, issues will be sensationalized. If you were to believe the forums, MCH would be an obsolete dead job. But in game they are played more often than Dragoons (haven't see one of these in about 3 weeks in DF post 50).

And then DKs... I don't see the issue with them. Its probably my favorite class to tank on. I don't really care if it was DPS in FFXI. Monks were DPS in EQ and Tanks in EQ2 and that was fine. Iconic classes sometimes change roles in sequels. It happens. Usually for the best.

The real problem with MCH, IMO is like I said earlier.. that pitiful sound their popguns make. Its a firearm and makes less sound than daggers. That makes no sense and is underwhelming.

The issue I have is the fallout that has scared the Machinist Job's reputation in the Player Base tell this day due to what happened during 3.0 despite SE fixing the Machinist's damage output and other aspects. Let us just say the First Impression hit MCH hard in this game and all attempts to make MCh more appealing to players who have yet to player Machinist or were heavily influenced by their First Impression to give MCH a better reputation, even if player number increase may not be affected, has failed which is a incident I hope may never again happen with future new Jobs either they are Tank, healer, or DPS.

I'm pretty sure this 'fallout' is just a forum community thing (aka, the vocal minority). Like I said before, I see more MCH than DRG in the DF. And asking around some circles, the reasons people don't play MCH is they either don't want to play a gun class, would rather be playing classes they started with, or like me just don't like the aesthetics of the class.

Sorry but when I play a gun class, I want to hear bangs, cracks, and booms. Not pangs and piffs.

Well, I can say I'll drop Samurai like a hot potato the moment they get a Gauss Scabbard.

I don't like to prepare myself for overhype or underhype anything. That's sort of thing is what keeps people from trying something out without any sense of wonder.

If we could save the doom and gloom for when the class actually arrives AND gets tried out instead of setting itself up for failure because MCH wasn't up to some people's expectations, that would be just swell.

Samurai reminds of WoW rogue, you built up something then you unleash it via another skill. I think Samurai will be fine. Its Red Mage that makes me curious, since this Red Mage wont be a hybrid role, so what does this mean for the white magick side of the Red Mage?
