The water GFX are sub-par. But characters, monsters, and the terrain look fantastic!

It's only after we've lost everything, that we're free to do anything.
Why did they include Ambient Occlusion in the graphic options? There are 50 less resource-taxing technologies that look 50-times better.
There's no excuse for why the hundred on-screen characters all properly cast shadows on themselves, landscape, and other characters, but the landscape doesn't.
because some effects take more development resources to make, some others are a single toggle in the engine.
First of all, "there's no excuse" is an extremely whiny way to express something (which exposes your true nature). There's plenty "reasons" (that works better than "EXCUSE" in a discussion), not to implement dynamic shadows from all light sources in the game when the engine is already quite advanced and heavy resources-wise.There's no excuse for why the hundred on-screen characters all properly cast shadows on themselves, landscape, and other characters, but the landscape doesn't.
Isn't it time for you to move to the next negative thread, since this one has already been debunked?
LOL the technology was already there in 2005. Didn't you see the tech demo?
DeadRiser, I regret to inform you that the 2005 tech demo was in-game footage. It was not a pre-rendered cinematic.
I haven't really went near any water yet in FFXIV.
From what I have seen though.. the graphics are better than any other game I have ever played.
The only thing that comes close to it is MAYBE Crysis 2 demo, that I installed a week ago.
Gotta love those free steam demos! ^_^
