so your not complaining about the water but the reason it does not reflecting? i know i stop at a city and look at the water and though how awesome it is. Have you play the game at full setting with everything on? FFXIV look awesome on a nice 1080p TV on full setting i can't say that about Rift which just came out. Shadow in FFXIV on high setting does look better then on low setting i hate shadow so i leave that off.
They would add DX10 and DX11 later on for now deal with it.
1920x1200 full setting, without Ambient Occlusion.
The water does not reflect the world. The water in Gridania reflects a hidden texture, not the actual world around it. Gridania's water reflection is just an illusion. The ugliest part of the game is Limsa Lominsa.
Btw i though DX10 was only for Window Vista and could not be use on Window XP?
dude...
"Reflection maps" are the most common method in most games. Those usually are sky cybes/spheres.
Some game have real time reflections, those eat a LOT of performance, easily done in single player games but would mean a overkill in a MMO. Looking at a reflection you would basically need to calculate and render the world double (reflections have a different perspective)
Now a good deal of people already have hardware issues running this game and you run around asking for reflections on water surface...
The water as it is does not look bad at all.
Stop trolling

How would you respond if you found out that WOW has been doing this since 2004?
And how are you going to say with a straight face that the water in limsa looks good?
wow is a old game and not as performance eating as FFXIV.
SE can later add real time reflections any time they choose to.

dude enough you just trolling now SE can add this whatever but wont because it would be too much performance with the type of pc ppl have. no one have 1k-2k to build a system just to see there face on water -.-
every post you made was by topic you start then you talk bad about ppl point of view -.- enough is enough.
How would you respond if you found out that WoW is looking terrible compaired tou FFXIV?How would you respond if you found out that WOW has been doing this since 2004?
And how are you going to say with a straight face that the water in limsa looks good?
You shouldn't even compair between the two, I showed you in my first post here what the characters look like S*** in WoW compaired to FFXIV.
As far as water goes how can you tell me with a straight face that this repeated tiled jello:

or this blurry polygon soup:

is any better that what we have in FFXIV?
You need to check you eye condition or go play wave race 64 who also look like blurry garbage.
Meleena, the topic is not about whether FFXIV looks better than WOW overall. The topic is about 16 year-old technologies that are not included in FFXIV for some bogus reason. The excuse ppl are making is that it will use a lot of resources... if this is the case, why did SE add Ambient Occlusion - an option that ridiculously taxes resources - when making limas look not so much like crap would require less out of a system... why not make it optional?
