    Burning out so fast.

So, I played FFXIV a long, long time ago when ARR first launched. Got a Monk to level 38ish, but got bored and quit for years. Came back, and I've leveled a bunch of classes to ~15-18. But, after being back for less than two weeks, I'm already starting to burn out pretty hardcore. I love the story, the music is amazing, I like the world, but the combat is just so painfully slow and simple.

Does the combat pick up later on in the game?

I'm just kind of lost. I play League with my brother and his friends, but I don't enjoy it playing alone. So I need an MMO with good PvE, and at least passable PvP. I used to play WoW (played for 12+ years), but I just don't have much fun with it now that they've simplified it so much. I absolutely love GW2, and the raids in it are super fun, but no one pugs anything, and there's not a lot to do outside of the raids. I tried TERA, BnS and the like, I tried Wildstar (I liked it, but it died), and all that.

FFXIV is kind of my last hope.

The combat is really slow at early levels, but it gets busier the more off cooldown abilities you'll get. Especially the Heavensward (level 60) rotations keep melees and ranged DDs busy (in fact the rotations of some jobs have gotten so complicated they're planning to simplify them for next expansion). Maybe check out some gameplay videos for level 60 melees and ranged classes and see if there are any that seem to appeal to you?

This is absolutely it. I would recommend sticking with FFXIV and trying to push your way past 50 with at least one class. The GCD isn't as noticeable when you have more off GDC skills and other things to pay attention to. Whether tank, dps or heals, the game starts to become more intense as you branch into the content unlocked at end game, especially if you're interested in raids. Perhaps enlist a friend to help you speed up the process and lower the combat curve.

Yes they get more intense once you start doing raids. At lvl 60 can get intense depending on how well you know your job and co operate with others. While you can play solo, I love playing solo, you will need to make some strong connections later on for Savage raids and such.

Yeah what they said. I had to level 4 jobs to 60 before I found the one that fits me the best. I actually enjoyed ALL of them but settled on my favorite. Here's a suggestion. Pick a job. Go do Palace Of The Dead. It is great exp and you get a fair idea of how a class will play at 60. Keep in mind everything about a class changes when you get to 30 and get your Job. So experiment with both. i.e. Rogue was great, ninja not so much fun (for me)

The rotations and skill amount(s) pretty much double when you get over 50, with the few classes I have gotten over. Combat definitely gets more interesting. You could also try playing a faster class like Archer or something. I am leveling one now.

Yeah that's kinda the problem in your first sentence you never gotten a class over lv 50 where the fun starts when it comes to combat so just hang in there and get your monk to lv 60 and see how it is then monk and dragoon has some of the most complex rotations so it should not be boring at 60 :P

Wow you really did get bored fast. You're kind of in the tutorial phase of the game. The real experience hasn't even started. They are thinking about offering a level skip in the future for you to buy. Instantly skipping to high-level rotations is just the thing for short attention span people.

Level 50 plus for most jobs is where it does get better.
I see you are from Leviathan, feel free to contact me i would be willing to help you out if needed.
PVP in this game may not be good like other games as it is not it's main focus but is passable.

I will answer this short and simple for you. FFXIV does not compare to the combat from the other games you have mentioned. Even so it gets a bit "faster" at 50+, FFXIV isn't a action combat based mmo and never meant to be. But that doesn't mean it's a bad game, and you will find plenty of stuff to do during your "free time", however the moment you're comparing it to the games named above or even others, you will end up very disappointed because FFXIV is nothing like any of these and it's defiantly not f2p

With that out of the way and since you're more focused on the actual end game, or at least that's what I am assuming since you're comparing the game to other fast action combat games, try this :

Do MSQ & Side Quests till level 20, from than on out ignore the side quests and do MSQ only. At level 17 you're able to unlock palace of the dead, you could theoretically level your character in there since it's faster than doing all the other things but if you have no level 50 or 60 character, it's less exp than you would get with having at least 1 class at 50/60 due to the armoury bonus. You can get to level 50 within 3 days doing just MSQ and around 6 days getting to 60. With potd and not having a character 50/60 it will be around 4.5 days to 50 and around 7 days to 60. Then you would have to catch up on all MSQ and Job quests and that would probably take another 3-4 days in comparison (if your play time is something around 12+ hrs a day) and you end up slower than just using any other method outside of potd but it's an option and you might not get burned out as quickly. Just my 2cents.
