    Getting so tired of not being able to play after an update.

    Each time the game update, I get that "unable to install patch files" or whatever it says. It would always take three of four days of trying all day. I was not away of an update after I JUST took two days of getting 3.56 running.

    I'm now stuck with another update and getting this error again. Yes, I know about using the 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 DNS and 1450 MTU. I JUST pre-ordered Stormblood two nights ago before logging off the PS4, now I'm hit with an update. Been trying to update since 8am (it's 12:57pm now as of this post).

    I guess I'll take a break from trying and go play Skyforge. This always happens on my off day.

    I hear you PS4 seems to have too many issues so I switched to PC, now a days I only use it to play foreign games more than anything.

    A FC member was saying about where you live can also affect patches, maybe I'm lucky or just live in a good area but I have played on PS4 since XIV was launched on it and rarely had any issues. So that be like 3 years XIV been on PS4 and could count the number of times I have had problems on one hand. Quite of few other FC members play on PS4 also and usually see them online without any problems after patches.

    You need to change your DNS settings on the PS4 for just long enough to update then you can switch them back (or not). Using your ISP's and Google's free DNS servers gives you two good options to use, so if the 8.8.8.8 (Google IIRC) one is the setting that is stuck you need to try a different set. I agree that it's an annoying issue :/

    What's the issue? Is the OP saying the Google DNS isn't working?

    This has happened to me twice now in my 2 years playing and the DNS fix has always solved the issue for me. Just don't keep it, always switch back after.

    It had to be a different DNS server config to your usual one, so if you or your ISP already uses Google you will need to change to something else to trigger the fix.

    Try OpenDNS maybe if Google isn't working? I'd probably leave the MTU on automatic in most cases.

    The fix that worked for me is simple:

    When you get the error messsage, you will have two options, "ok" or "back". By pressing "ok", it will exit the client without patching and you will start a loop. But when you click "back", it will set the patch to download and install. Works for me everytime.

    Had to use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 this time. This is a new one for me.

    This is not a console only issue as PC has had it also and it is a long issue they never cared to look into.
    One post (or more) that had solutions by members was filled in the resolved section and there is like 4 or more threads for this.
    Anyhow, i had this months ago and was over a month without being able to get in to download, support was non existent and i lost game time.
    Had same issue when i switched to PS4 Pro so what i had done is assign a static IP address to my PS4, port forwarded, used different dns, changed MTU settings and used a VPN service.
