    The Sound of Silence

Most of the parties I get in df will stops at the initial greetings, and a good number of people does not even bother to answer them.

Then, a full run without a single word than myself trying to talk a couple times but met with a silence wall.

Well, cannot ask everyone doing chit-chat, but isn't it quite gloomy? When I do duties with fc mates we talk a good number of times and will end them nicely and timely anyway.

Are your runs that way? Do you prefer run silently but with maxed efficiency? Am I wrong?

Most of my dungeon runs are fairly light hearted and chatty. Although, to the random party member(s) we would appear nearly or completely silent. Chances are that if I'm in a dungeon / roulette I'm doing it with one or more friends, while having some good conversation over VoIP because "watching paint dry is more entertaining with friends". I don't think it's a far stretch to say a good number of folks do the same thing.

sometimes i'm tired and don't want to talk

and i'm using a controller so to type i have to put my controller down before i can use my keyboard. And that isn't realistic when you've got a go go go group.

Well, I don't have much to talk about with strangers, so... uh... what would I say? ^^'

If something particular happens in PotD, like getting frog 3 times in a row or something, sure, there's something to comment on. Maybe a pun here and there, maybe a pull-warning to the healer or strategy if needed. But... otherwise I usually just keep quiet, especially in combat for obvious reasons.

Console users ruined sociability of a MMORPG. Not because they are jerks. But because like the last poster said. They have to switch to a keyboard and put down a friggin controller.

I don't generally talk at all in my groups (I play on PC) mostly because I don't care to, it's not like I'm going to see any of them after the run is over anyway. About the only time I'll speak up in a group is if I notice something, i.e. there have been plenty of times I'll see a nin forget to put on a poison so I'll just say "hey nin you don't have a poison on" or if a drg isn't using heavy thrust or blood of the dragon I'll say "hey, don't forget to use heavy thrust and/or blood of the dragon" and so on. I normally figure the person forgot to toggle it on, maybe just switched to a Job when the queue popped after gathering or crafting or something and forgets about those little things.

I tank 99% of the time so my contribution to the group is ensuring a smooth run and if it goes well, at the end I usually say "GG," comm whoever I feel deserves it, and leave.

I talk occasionally but most of the time the run is so efficient with near constant pulling that most people seem focused on their job. When funny stuff happens or issues arise I will talk quite a bit. Probably depends on how the run goes or if anything happens.

I do hate the wall of silence though, I make a comment and get no response... makes me feel stupid sometimes.

For the most part, my df groups are pretty silent aside from the initial greetings. I'm not in an fc and I currently play solo a lot of the time. I prefer parties who like to chat, but I don't ever expect that to be the case. Every now and then I'll get a group who likes to talk, and it's a real treat. But being a solo player who usually uses DF, I've come to terms with silence in groups. It's nice sometimes, while other times I wonder if I'm playing with real people or just robots lol
