Were they similar to the Bangaa? I thought they would be a cool raceI might be remembering this wrong but wasn't like the original design for the Au'Ra a lot more beastly/lizard-like in appearance but when they showed it to the Japanese fanbase they had an absolutely massive rage fit over it and thus we ended up with tall elezen males with horns/tails/scales and female hyurs with horns/tail/scale.
Most likely from this thread, however it seems OP has edited their post and just left the Race area with "none." If you go through the thread, you can see "relics" of what was originally written (page 8, specifically).
As you can see from my post here though, that's really not the case with them at all. The angriest threads about the Au Ra I could find on their end were complaints that the eyes droop too much on girls and that the scales look more like burn scars. Most likely from this thread, however it seems OP has edited their post and just left the Race area with "none." Really the Japanese playerbase tends to usually feel about the same way we do about things, including pointing fingers overseas over design issues. They just don't have to deal with issues like spontaneous changes made in the localization, the language barrier with the devs, or the magazine fiasco.
I am against any new races. I believe more diverse classes and race customization is needed. This is not a race driven game like world of Warcraft.
♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥
People say alot of things, numbers don't lie however. The current trend in race popularity heavily favors that of the cute Miqo'te female/lala (not counting male hyur RMT populous). Looking at those numbers why would they not double down and make AuRa much the same in terms of (exaggerated cute) features?
I want Viera before any other race is introduced personally. However if you truly want more bestial options the fan base will have to show less human aesthetic is worth the time, effort, and resources needed to implement. i don't see that happening any time soon.
Mate, I'm just saying that that thread is most likely where the idea was planted into everyone's heads (and it didn't help it was a Fan Fest thread, where people who didn't watch the stream would read bullet point notes on what was said)... though I did just remember something from an old poll back in 2012...
Does this mean anything today? Of course not, but there's a chance that it did influence the waifish design for female Au Ra's back when and if cute stuff remain being popular/most sought after, then it might be all we get for playable races in FFXIV.In contrast with other MMORPGs, I’m seeing a trend towards…shall we say, FF-ness? Ours being a Japanese game, the result seems to tell us that players are prioritizing cuteness, something which I noted with great interest.
I know that's what you were doing I was just re-emphasizing what I managed to dig up for latecomers. ^ ^;Mate, I'm just saying that that thread is most likely where the idea was planted into everyone's heads (and it didn't help it was a Fan Fest thread, where people who didn't watch the stream would read bullet point notes on what was said)... though I did just remember something from an old poll back in 2012...
I really don't have a horse in the race as far as the actual topic goes I just wanted to clarify JP opinions. I'm happy as a Elezen, it's easier to spot prey when you're tall. If they never announced more playable races it wouldn't really make a difference to me. I care more about them adding better character customization and gear variety.
The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding: Lovers' Kiss will not allow a bird race. A lizard race, or an anything-race.
