    Dye discussion.

I love alot of gear in this game but sad part is alot of it is not dyeable and it takes out alot of diversity in this game. In comparison, its one of the things I actually appreciate that FFXI didn't have.

Favorite gear on bard: Wrangler / not dyeable
Favorite gear on War: Diabolic gear / not dyeable
Favorite gear on Scholar: Butler's set / Dyeable!
Favorite gear on Dragoon: Demon Set / Not dyeable
I have a few other gear sets I really like but most just are not dyeable...

Really don't want to scour the forums for all the information as to why some sets are dyeable and some are not. If anyone can link me to Dev responses as to why that would be great! If not, time for a discussion.

So why can't we dye some gear? Memory limits? Design problems? Require recoding all the current gear sets? Isn't there another way?

Would it be possible to create a quest that makes gear dyeable that you have to complete for each gear piece you want to dye? Could crafters be brought into this equation to make them somewhat useful again? Would a Dye prism or something work? What can be done to unlock dyeing of non-dyeable gear? Can we offer the same upgrade option that we currently offer to increase ilvl by 10 and allow dyeing to dungeon, raid, and 24 player content gear?

Anyone else have any ideas? I really think it would be cool if all gear was dyeable but I must have missed the discussions in the past as to why the devs have chosen only particular sets. Surely they could implement something to allow dyeing to past gear and all future gear some how or is it too much trouble. If not, I hope they consider dye colors and maybe even patterns, calligraphy, symbols, animals, etc... Be cool if they thought about it more for stormblood gear and progression. Don't have to have tattoos if we can do stuff to our armor as well?

What would you like to see happen with the dye system or are you happy with it currently.

Outside of a few exceptions, dropped gear is just not dyeable?

Given that the models are typically reused as dyeable crafted sets later on, the reason is probably to save them time and money on having to design entirely new gear. We expect new content at a pretty fast rate, so they have to find ways like this to help facilitate that.

Though I think they could get the same effect from making the original drops dyeable, and then just swapping the models around to different classes when they reuse the designs later on.

I can't link but I remember them saying it's development time restrictions. Last time they mentioned it was during Alexander.

And I'm happy with the dye system.

Dye could use multi-layer dye options.

This is probably it, being able to reuse them later - rather than giving players full color control and losing the ability to recycle them later.

Would like to see a system like GW2, but I'm not sure they'll give up their recycle-ability and consumable "market" :/. GW2 multiple slots to dye an item with, so different locations to create different looks and that all the dyes are permanently owned so you don't waste inventory space or have to go back and buy them again and again.

Edit: example for those unfamiliar, you'll see one of these items has four slots for coloring different parts of the item, and not all items have that many slots (2-3) - also noting that once they unlocked the dye they didn't have to buy the dye again to try out the color:

Not until the PS5, according to Yoshida, but I agree. I was pretty happy with how dying worked in ARR, but since 3.0 when they started making the entire item dye in different shades of the same color, I almost never dye anything 'cause it looks horrible most of the time.

If the sleeves were pure white on the undyed version, why on Hydaelyn would I want them to turn puke green when I dye the coat dark green? Who thinks that looks good?

Well, I understand the recycleability point for dungeon gear but 24 player and raid gear drops should not be recycled anyway. They brought them back later for crafter recipis and dyeing. Why go through all that trouble later on? Wouldn't it make sense to just make them dyeable now with a prism or something so that crafters are still being used, example be the allagan gears.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is, they create more work for themselves doing this. It's also a poor excuse to give crafters more recipis and miner/botany more stuff to gather. A simple dye prism would make their work less I would think unless they have specific developers working on this kind of stuff. That still doesn't justify it tho, those developers could be used on content with a simple item like a dye prism, repeatable quest, or something really than creating new recipis, items to create them, etc...

I really don't understand why we need a PS5 for multi dye a equip.

It's more a server problem than a hardware problem.

I agree, but that's not the official line.

Maybe now that we're getting server upgrades, though, it'll become possible.

I am more sad that we can't dye the outfits that we buy with real money except a little few exceptions.
