Oh goodness don't remind me of Black Desert..I loved walking everywhere when I was brand new to the game..but it became so tiring and painful after 30+ times of going the same paths..Having played Black Desert, where the is no fast travel or teleports of any kind. I didn't know just how irksome the lack of it would be. It plain annoys me when I'm forced to walk everywhere. If you prefer it for immersion sake, by all means, don't use them. I like having the option.
Would be no problem with the 1.0 cities, because the devs would only have to add the removed tunnels and stairs again.
But Ishgard maybe not, because it was designed as 2 seperated zones. There is much more missing than just tunnels and stairs.
Here's your immersion: you still have to walk to the Ul'dah market board area.
Personally the aetheryte thing doesn't bother me but what bothers me instead is how even a city is split into several macro areas.
So instead of focusing on that, how about removing loading screens from the city and areas and make them bigger (gw2 does it pretty well if you ask me)
I think with that out of the way, the immersion would be much higher regardless of the ather-whatever being present or not. But I digress.
Fast travel, immersion breaking in a fantasy game full of magic? The games lore explains how it works. It doesn't make the world any less believable.
I don't think it would be possible at all, because there are locations that were present in 1.0 that are no longer present in 2.0, but also locations present in 2.0 that aren't present in 1.0 in the three main cities. They would need to redo the entire physical map as well as the visual map. Though does depend on how big their map/location team is, if they're sizeable then they can afford to do it, but as far as I know, they're not likely to build maps as two-parters 4.0 onward.
Sorry but I strongly disagree with the lack of teleportation in such games. I think it's just you and few others.
I played BDO and hated it for numerous reasons and one of them was the lack of teleportation.
There is nothing immersive or fun looking at your horse running for 15 mins to get from one point of the map to another.
Imagine XIV without teleport when you have to deliver multiple Quests to different NPCs in different areas or trying to catch a hunt or a FATE.
Yes it's not working. Devs know a lot of things way better than what we think we do.
If the cities were single maps AND all of the shops and such were relatively close together OR we could use mounts in Ul'dah and the rest, I'd be fine with it. As it stands, going from the main Atheryte to, say, the Alchemist guild is a trek... Arcanist guild to Black/Armorsmith? Really long trek. Even with my BRD and Swiftsong, getting around these towns is a major headache on foot, they're just not designed well for it.
BDO was never built with quick playtime in mind. Majority of the community praise the devs for not adding quick travel. There really isn't anything in the open world other than world bosses that require teleportation anyway. They have recently added teleport maps that do teleport you to the nearest town but have a 6hr cool down and are a 1 time use unless you get another. The KR version also recently received a gliding type horse so that makes traveling much quicker I would think, granted it takes a lot of work to breed it and fight the RNG gods. The people who complain about BDO don't take the time to breed horses for skills or enhance barding pieces for better stats.Sorry but I strongly disagree with the lack of teleportation in such games. I think it's just you and few others.

On topic: As I said earlier aethernets are fine but we don't need so many, 1 for every general area in town would probably be more than enough, some walking won't kill you guys![]()
