I think there fine personally thou Lore-wise I believe not "Every" NPC can even use Aethernet travel other wise we wouldn't have ppl getting jumped by mobs walking from Ul'dah to Horizon (or any other place) plus I think large bulk crates can't be taken by "Non-PC" ppl threw the Aethernet anyway, so theirs also that, got love the "Hammer Space" trope its so useful when magic's involved (so the in-city Aethernet is there cause about 80% of Eorzea can use it but only for "personal" light travel & not as regularly as we the plot-armoured PC can/do (maybe 1-2 times a week for about 50% of the population that can & only cause they trained/know how)

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

As legacy I can answer this... Yes.

The zones and cities were such a pain to navigate in v1 due to their enormous sizes and couple with the currency for aetheryte travel locked to a slowly regenerating stat (think levequests) called anima that it could take you 30 minutes easily to run to an area. And when you had to run from the alchemist guild, to weavers guild, back to the alchemist guild then out to black brush...well you get the idea. Doing all that without shortcuts when you add in all the long hallways, invisible walls and other arbitrary things SE added, like many gaming companies do, to compensate for a lack of creativity was torturous and actually made people just up and quit. Once or twice, fine, but when its on a regular basis....omg no thanks.

So people specifically asked for easier ways to get around and SE acknowledged that and added this feature.

Like many said, they are optional, if you don't like em, don't use em. It's not game breaking in any way.

And frankly we are going to have a bunch or Warriors of Light, saviors of the realm, the chosen or Hydaelyn, buzzing around Eorzea on giant eggs popping out baby chocos, most likely while in bunny suits, so aetheryte travel should be the least of your worries for emersion breaks hahaha

That doesn't really matter. It's pretty arrogant of you to say, in essence, "You know what? I don't like this feature, it harms my mental image on how this world should operate. I think SE should take it away from everyone so that I can feel better about this."

It's like mass transit. Oh, I think it's OK for us to have busses and trains and that to go from one city to another, but to different places within the city? OH HELL NO. It makes my city feel too small that I can hop on a train and travel underground to another part of the city in a few minutes instead of battling traffic.

I apologize if I sound overly combative here, that's not the tone I'm trying to convey, but that's the way your posts sound to me.

That's fine, I was just asking the question for discussion, not asking them to change it. It's why I said "maybe it's just me."

Do I miss having to walk through town to get to the markets or to the airship docks? Kinda? It can make the world feel more immersive but I can always choose to walk if I really want to. What the game needs as an option is realtime airship flights and ferry trips.

While I ofc would never ever want them to remove any sort of teleport (and rather have some more points added om specific areas - looking at you, Western Coerthas or you, Ul'dah market!) I always hold myself off from using them when doing some important/intresting storytelling questline - so mainquest, Hildibrand, events that I like are all done without using the teleports (to an extend at least - there are certain walks that I still wont make).
So maybe that can work for some of you too?
For everyday life I much rather have the convience of the teleports - however its a bit sad that we dont really get to admire the beautiful landscapes because of those... hence me not using them once in a while.

Having played Black Desert, where the is no fast travel or teleports of any kind. I didn't know just how irksome the lack of it would be. It plain annoys me when I'm forced to walk everywhere. If you prefer it for immersion sake, by all means, don't use them. I like having the option.

    'Immersion breaking'?

    /shakeshead

V1.0 didn't have them in towns and only a handful in the far larger zones, I didn't notice is was more 'immersive' for their absence in towns.

And as far as the feeling of the cities being small, there is a difference between a world being big and feeling big, I much prefer the latter compared to 1.0's huge empty copy and paste scenery. If you've ever played Shadow of the Colossus, you'll understand what I'm talking about with a world feeling big without being big.
