While I ofc would never ever want them to remove any sort of teleport (and rather have some more points added om specific areas - looking at you, Western Coerthas or you, Ul'dah market!) I always hold myself off from using them when doing some important/intresting storytelling questline - so mainquest, Hildibrand, events that I like are all done without using the teleports (to an extend at least - there are certain walks that I still wont make).
So maybe that can work for some of you too?
For everyday life I much rather have the convience of the teleports - however its a bit sad that we dont really get to admire the beautiful landscapes because of those... hence me not using them once in a while.

Having played Black Desert, where the is no fast travel or teleports of any kind. I didn't know just how irksome the lack of it would be. It plain annoys me when I'm forced to walk everywhere. If you prefer it for immersion sake, by all means, don't use them. I like having the option.

Oh goodness don't remind me of Black Desert..I loved walking everywhere when I was brand new to the game..but it became so tiring and painful after 30+ times of going the same paths..

    'Immersion breaking'?

    /shakeshead

V1.0 didn't have them in towns and only a handful in the far larger zones, I didn't notice is was more 'immersive' for their absence in towns.

And as far as the feeling of the cities being small, there is a difference between a world being big and feeling big, I much prefer the latter compared to 1.0's huge empty copy and paste scenery. If you've ever played Shadow of the Colossus, you'll understand what I'm talking about with a world feeling big without being big.

Even me, a player who prefers to do things the slow and hard way still prefers travel via aetherytes. In any given day, I travel so much between different zones that if I traversed everywhere without the use of aetherytes it would either add an exponential amount of time, or greatly reduce what I get done that day.

That said, every once in a while I will still take the long road from point a to b. As another poster stated, you don't have to use them if you don't want to. They are a convenient means of travel that you pay for with gil, and are not mandatory. You don't even have to attune to them if you don't want to and if you feel as strongly as you state, this list should be small to non-existent for you.

I just saw a Lalafell WAR in a Pig Suit chase a Roe in the chocobo suit down in the Central Shroud. They shouted out terrible puns like, "Stay away you swine" to each other.

It was both hilarious and cringe inducing. Immersion be damned.

If you want to waste your time running from place to place, that's your business. Nobody can force you to use the aethernet though.

I'd like to see mounts or faster running allowed in cities. If we had say.. close to flying speed, I think many of us would skip the aethernet entirely. Skipping a load screen would make some destinations quicker.
