I don't fully agree with this statement.

The ninja basics are pretty easy and you will understand the basic rotation easily too.
Monk ain't that difficult to understand but is, in my opinion, the job that require the most skillcap out of the 3 melees DPS.

The difference between good and decent Monks is incredible in term of potency.

I enjoy both, my advice would be give a try to both and decide by yourself

yeah the difference is between caring the positionals and stances or not – but ya im with you the decent ones are harder to master than basic ninja-rotations jupp ^^

The only reason why I believe Monk is easier than Ninja is solely based on the utilities Ninja applies. When I played Monk I never had to worry about anyone other than myself. Rotation never changed and positionals are easily hit majority of the time. When I play Ninja its not solely about myself anymore. I need to keep an eye on TP for Goad. Shadewalker or Smokescreen if enmity is becoming a problem. Whens the best time to use Trick Attack so the majority can benefit from it or it just feels like a waste. Also mudras can sometimes have a slight delay and become a problem if you arent looking.

If we were talking about rotations only then yeah Monk is slightly harder due to positionals. Im mostly speaking about the classes as a whole not just rotation. I guess what I was trying to say from before is that Ninja is harder to play at an optimal level than it is to play Monk. Now granted I just started playing Ninja alittle over a month ago so I could be wrong and just a boob.

OP Rogue is a lot of fun, when it was added i would main that class for a while then eventually maxed out PGL. In terms of ROG/Nin vs PGL/Mnk it beaks down to do you wanna be planted to deal a good amount of damage or the freedom to move and attack from almost any spot?
Rog/Nin are great for dodging attacks and even though it has some move you have to be in one spot to gain full damage you can still do a decent amount even if you have to move, there is also Throwing Dagger that is a nice long range.
As for Pgl/Mnk You have to be in one spot for most of it's combos. either behind at all times or to the side. It does however gain power up moves like Grease Lighting and all that makes it stronger. Problem is if you have to dodge a lot you lose those skills. I actually make a post about that whole thing on here not long ago.

Anyway both are really good but my personal opinion is to start with Rogue then switch to Pgl.

If you are going to purchase STORMBLOOD expansion. You should level Pugilist aka Monk. That way you can easily play Samurai as it will share gear with Monk.

If it's sharing it's gear there is a good chance Monk's cross skills will also be for SAM so that isn't a bad idea.

They're removing the cross-class system in favor of a role based one, so that's not really relevant (i.e. You won't need to have other classes leveled to get the abilities you need).

To the OP: I agree with leveling MNK if you're interested in Samurai because they share gear. I think MNK plays smoother than NIN, and it does more damage even with dodging attacks. Also playing MNK is like dancing due to the positionals.

NIN has more utility, less build up and more flexibility otherwise. Against a good MNK, you will do less damage but you have much more burst at the start too.
