Rogue or Pugilist? Returning player looking for something new

Right, I've just returned from about 7 -8 months of inactivity. Drg was my main and was doing not bad. Ilvl 200 something then the nfl came back bought madden so bye bye ffxiv.

Resubed last night and tried practicing with my drg. But I've forgot the best combo manoeuvres ie botd rotation and positionals so thought screw it try something new. Rogue and pug is my obvious choice as I like dps and that the strategy that comes with melee dps.

So my question is what is everyone's thought on Pugilist and rogue and what has More excitement to the role e.g positional combos, buffs.

Had little play with both and both seem similar at lower lvls and tbh pug seems better at the moment.

    Thoughts?

Should have also mentioned my mouse has broke so something ps4 controller friendly till I get a new mouse as drg is a total nightmare what with the constant R1 hotbar switch to ram in as much dps.

If you enjoy positionals and high damage - Pugilist/Monk. All of the abilities in their combo rotation rely not only on stance but rear/flank positionals for maximum effect. Downside is that currently they do not have a great deal to offer others in a party, so their lack of responsibilities make them simpler to play.

Rogue/Ninja is technically the weakest in terms of damage, but offers more party utility. It gives a party-wide damage boost with Trick Attack and can help manage aggro on party members with their post-50 skills.

Both are fun to play (I prefer Ninja myself) and share gear until iLvl 110 or so, so you can give them both a shot to see which you find more fun. In addition, their rotations don't dramatically change after 50 the way some jobs did, but they both get tools to help make their self-buffs easier to maintain.

Well if you dont want to swap hotbars alot play Monk. I played Monk on pad for almost 2 years and had nearly all my buttons on one bar. I only had to swap for Charka and Rock Breaker.

Also IMO Monk is alot easier to learn than Ninja.

Well crisis averted I've got a new mouse

Pug/monk I thinks for me. One thing though is monks dps make up for its inability for buffing your party? I.e overall party damage is greater than it would be if he/she is a NIN with all there buffs. Or is there to many variables?

There will always be preferences in groups, and Ninja tends to fit in better in the raid scene because of its party utility. Monk, sadly, does not. However, every job is perfectly viable in content, and plenty of groups will still take a Monk along. Just play what you enjoy, and hope Stormblood's new abilities help alleviate those concerns with the meta.

Depends... if you're not planning to form a raid static then none of that matters anyway lol. In normal content the extra damage is appreciated to help speed up the dungeon run at least (assuming you can hit positionals right).

But if you want to raid, I know a lot of groups will take a NIN over a MNK in an instant because of the extra utility. At the same time I know a group that swears by their MNK (who puts their BLM to shame by a few hundred points every fight - probably more now that the ilvl has gone up). It all depends on the type of static you get, and how they like to do their fights.

It seriously depends do you like that your abilities are bound to screw up because the server didn't communicate the info back to your client properly and then end up wasting a mudra if so then play Ninja and if you don't like that then play Monk its pretty simple. If your connection isn't that great avoid Ninja and play Monk or some other job that catches your eye.

Ultimately I say play what you like. You can change FC if you want to raid on X class but they won't take you. Or linkshells or however you ar set up to raid if you like to raid. Something to consider...if the samurai sounds like it is what you'd like to play monk will get you set up with gear for it.

yeah but be careful with materia - we don't know which sub-stats/stat-weight SAM and RDM are based on yet ^^
