wouldn't the paladin version be more in line with sentinel? which grants imperviousness to melee attack while standing still? granted its melee not spell but that makes it exclusive to gladiators

I was honestly thinking the same thing or possibly Invincible (from XI; with some additional conditions/refinements)

Shouldn't the thread title be "Infernal nail" in our sides? *ba dum ching*
Why would it last a long time just because it increases enmity? Warmonger isn't too long. The fact that it says TEMPORARILY right in the description makes me think it's shorter, like Sentinel now, and not a constant effect, like Defender now. The point is that ANY amount of damage reduction is useful for pushing down hellfire damage because of the way people fight it. Even if it is much lower you'll still equip it, which is why I said to hope for it to be lower level.
I think it's more likely that Defender was pushed to a passive trait for the tanking classes, they have 10 traits to come up with for each class, not wild to think that we'll see Enhanced Defense for GLA and MRD.
No, that's the new deflection, except you might not have to random proc-block (maybe forced 100% block rate?) It says Melee attacks only anyway, and it's exclusive, so that's irrelevant.

I feel you on the parties. Everyone is getting power leveled. Only time I hear a regular party is if it's 45+.. sometimes 40+.
And I'm tired of having required abilities to beat endgame content. Thank the twelve next patch is probably changing that.

Not true, if this new GLD Ability 1 is only a 5% damage reduction it would be laughable at best, and would not be nearly as required to do the fight as the current Sentinel is now. If you destroy one nail the damage is around 2800. Being that your character has anywhere 2600-3200 HP (in a full party) with SSII you should have an additional ~500ish HP buffer, so everyone should have 3100-3700 HP.
That is plenty to take the hit, without Sentinel, and recover (assuming you have a good healer, sadly though it seems this game lacks good healer save for a select few). :-/ Now if Sentinel were reduced to a mere 5% damage reduction that means instead of dropping to 300-900 HP you'd drop to 440-1040 HP instead. Not much of a difference between the two, so I doubt it would still be a required ability, because regardless...you are going to have to heal the party after the attack with it or not.
So what you're saying is sentinel is not a thorn in our sides and is not required for Ifrit? Who knew!If you destroy one nail the damage is around 2800. Being that your character has anywhere 2600-3200 HP (in a full party) with SSII you should have an additional ~500ish HP buffer, so everyone should have 3100-3700 HP.

I doubt they'll add a mitigation ability that TEMPORARILY mitigates 5% damage.
Sentinel*
PS: You don't need Sentinel.

your missing the last portion of that phrase you keep bolding, and that is the fact that they use action in the plural while its in effect, meaning it lasts longer; you know that temporary could just mean 1m30s duration with 3m recast right? that is temporarily mitigating damage since you cannot permanently keep the effect active...
Since when did temporary = short duration? It merely means not lasting indefinitely. To exaggerate the point Temporary could very well, by definition = 18 hour duration with a 20 hour recast, the effect is still temporary.

Some people just know what is going to happen. The have a direct channel to SE's inner workings like a devout christian has to god.
