Mm, but they have a vested interest in making our event stuff better if they can sell it later on to everyone who missed the event (which will probably be quite a large number of people in the dip before SB hits). Zojha is right; in a perverse way, the cash shop has helped us out this time. It encourages them to put more effort into event rewards instead of just decorating a special coatee.

I'm just happy I'm able to get the item in-game. Not a huge fan of egg-themed things so I wouldn't want to buy it, but riding around on one I can earn myself? Heck yes.

Well yes, if you happen to have a sub now. If you decided to take a break in the big content lull to Stormblood, or happen to join the game later, then you'd have to buy it (or, buy a subscription for April - that's 12 bucks either way). Likewise, if you happen to create an alt later because lolnothingisaccountbound. SE wins no matter what.

It's not as profitable as cash shop exclusive items of course, but far better than putting the effort into permanent game additions (which don't generate any extra cash). I'm actually surprised they aren't adding more items with the events.

Not my favorite mount actually, I'd wish it was dyable so that everyone could personalize their own flying egg and also that it doesn't spin crazily like the turtle!...
