This is the best and accurate assessment I ever had read of how DF is today. Kudos to you.
While I do not suffer from any physical disabilities I do find it important to make sure everyone can enjoy games including this one.
I personally have set FFXIV up to play on a multitude of control setups ranging from standard PS4 controller and keyboard/mouse, to 1 handed use with a flight stick to doing things in game (including things like dun scaith and HW primals) on DDR dance pads for hands free operation. I am currently working on setting up the game to enable voice command gameplay.
Games are for everyone, and I hope that everyone will find a way to play that works for them, and while dev's can't always change their vision to suit everyones unique situation, the community itself can find a way to make them at least able to play and feel welcome![]()
I'd like that to make a macro to place a text in chat, but I don't know how. Could anyone share? Thanks!!!
English is NOT my mother language, French is. Use my recruitment code MV9YGNXD before paying your sub and get cool items. http://sqex.to/Cz9
If you go to your System> User Macros screen, and click on a blank space, you can give the macro a name/icon and then in the big space below just type /p then your message, exactly as you would if you were talking in the chat box. That way if you join a party you don't even have to select the right chat channel.
You can either bind it to something or just right-click (Square) select it in the User Macros screen at any time and hit Execute. Saves a lot of time typing out a long explanation.
(Sorry about the very simple level of the instructions, I figure you might know most of this but some lurkers might not!)
I think most people who are jerks or impatient are coming from a position of ignorance. When someone stops moving without warning or doesn't respond to the chat log, they think that they're griefing them and get mad instead of understanding that the person on the other end is suffering from acute pain or some other real life issue at that moment. If was in a party and someone said right away that they had some difficulties but were clearly doing their best, it would really help me understand and be patient. And if anyone else in the party started being a jerk about it, they'd find it was them getting kicked, not the person who asked for some extra understanding.
I said I wasn't disabled earlier but I do have some issues using the standard UI, and one tip I have is that I made Party Chat (and a few other select channels) play a noise when someone types (Character Configuration> Log Window Settings> Notification Sounds). I set my Party channel up to play sound 'Type 16' there, it's not disruptive to me because it's a gentle sound but it alerts me when someone is trying to get my attention so I don't need to keep watching the chat channels visually which makes me a lot less stressed in battle. No idea whether that helps anyone else but it certainly makes things easier for me.
I have mental health challenges and chronic pain. XIV has helped some with social isolation. I have concentration and memory problems that make learning the harder fights pretty tough and at times I play badly because I'm having a bad brain day but overall I find the challenge rewarding.
... I have severe depression and have had it for a majority of life. The kind that my husband has come home to find me curled up in a corner of a room, passed out from crying for hours, or still crying for hours, for no real reason sometimes. I... support this thread, but I'm also horribly socially inept (hard to be social when your depression decides to start crippling you into a mess that doesn't really function). Have other issues... I just don't want to talk about them.
I just want to thank you for this thread. Although im lucky enough not to suffer from any of these issues at the moment i WELCOME this thread. Even If it just helps 1 person out there for 1 day it is so so worth it. ppl need to know that they are not alone, that they are not the only ones in this world with "this/that" problem. Their fears are common with others... Thank you for taking step op, Im sure you have "helped" someone today go to bed in a "lighter" mood. Threads like this should be applauded ALWAYS!
I don't know if this counts, but I'm currently on disability for recurring stage IV cancer due to a genetic defect; basically my body doesn't know how to fight cancer or tumors. It's a condition called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis and it's realllllly rare, like 1 out of every million people are affected. And I have the even RARER variation called Gardner's Syndrome. Because of this, there's not really a solid attack plan on fighting or preventing the cancers it causes. I'm on my third cancer in 3 years. I'm only 32 years old. I'm going through chemotherapy more often than not and I guess the next step is radioactive beads injected directly into my body. I have been playing since around 2.4 (I played a bit in 1.0 tho). This game has really helped me keep my mind off all the crap I'm constantly going through and I've made some really good friends through it, even ran my own guild for a year or so. I'd probably be sitting in a corner of my apartment crying all the time if it wasn't for this amazing game. Not sure how to end this post, but seriously, thank you SE for making this great game.
My condolences what your going though, in glad you found a game with a great community. You are a strong person.
/fistbump to all disabled gamers.
My anxiety is manageable but it still gets in the way of what I want to do in game. There are still some days though that I just can't put myself in group to play with others
