Trying to find a new and active server!

I am currently on Gilgamesh, however I have some friends that are new to the game and my server is nigh impossible to move to.
So I'm currently looking for a good and active server to join.
Would also be looking to make new friends and re-learn a lot of things, I haven't played in about a year and I'm a little rusty

Any and all help would be appreciated!

If your friends have a couple days of time on their hands, you can create characters on gilgamesh currently at 1am - 4am pst and/or right after the daily reset at 8am, sometimes you're lucky at 7:30am.

I would suggest taken advantage of that before 4.0 hits, because after that I don't see a possibility to get on that server unless you pay $18 for transfer, and we have to admit it's one of the most active servers at any time of the day, including any content training/clears/walkthroughs/raid etc.

With that out of the way, let me list a couple of servers that are currently active. Since you have not specified if you're looking for a more mid/hardcore or casual community I am going with servers that are somewhat comparable to gilgamesh.

Same Data Center (if that matters to you): Sargatanas, Balmung, Cactuar
Primal Data Center: Excalibur, Hyperion, Leviathan
JP Data Center's (this might have changed): Chocobo, Tonberry, Bahamut

You might have the same problem as with gilgamesh and a character restriction, however it's not as bad as with gilgamesh. If you are completely looking for none restricted servers try very small populated servers as in Siren, Zalera, Mateus, Faerie, Jenova (aether data center), Lamia, Exodus, Framfrit (primal data center).

I didn't list the EU data center because I've never played there.

I greatly appreciate the reply, with the different hours of work it's a little hard to do the character creation.
One of them are on Zalera, which is one of the lowest populated servers. So we're all just trying to find an decently active server that we can all join and play together.
The Free Companies and such will come along the way

Excalibur is quite active and is currently open for character creation I believe. If I was able to get into the game without crashing, I'd help you or at least confirm that.

Hyperion is active enough to be closed sometimes but not all the time.

Sargatanas is a pretty active server~ I'd have to check the census again, but I think it's the third most populated on the Aether Data Center (it's after Balmung and Giglamesh). There's always people on and doing things, which I was pleasantly surprised about when I moved to Sarg from Faerie.

If you choose to move there, you and your friends will be more than welcome to join me and mine. We're a super friendly mix of old and new players who are willing to help each other out and just have fun playing the game. Just let me know~ Even if you don't end up coming to Sarg but you stay in Aether, we could always party up using the party finder if you wanted. I'm always looking for new friends~

Huh, that's weird, I didn't know Cactuar was edging it's way to high population. I joined last year and it was still low-to-mid pop. I should've guess though, it's been looking very crowded the past few months LOL.

One thing to keep in mind 'bout Cactuar: it was known as The Crafting Server back-in-the-day. Everyone and their mother has a crafting/gathering job, so stuff can be really expensive compared to some servers because people have money to burn. xD On the bright side, means it's pretty easy to make gil if you get into either of these things. ^_^

Joking aside what others have already listed is correct with the only NA one not added is Brynnhildr, that is another option for you.
