You can achieve quite a lot via the use of subtle tones that match your character's skin colour and the various make up options even where it might not seem appropriate, another case would be using it to get rid of the blotchy cheeks on some of the Lala faces.

Yeah, that's what I tried doing with my elezen. I made him dark because I figured it'd make it easier to hide the cheekbone shadows.

I agree the elezen need another base face to choose from. We are sorely limited.
Here is my elezen. I started with the young face and tweeked it for about an hour. I also prefer a more chill expression. I get compliments on his look from time to time
