Abyssea zone bosses you classify as hard? Even with 3-4 ppl they are nothing if you have ppl who know what they are doing. Less in some cases.

But I do agree they should mix it up between light and hard content. Although ffxi as it stands is all light content. As long as they dont make the mistakes in xiv they made in xi over the past year or so they may well be ok

You don't really want to kick off 2.0 with a forum full of tantrums from the 1.0 crowd outraged they didn't get their collectibles because it was too hard to get them in time.
I understand what you're getting at, and I partially agree, I'm not saying that EVERYTHING should be very difficult. But at the same time, I think that in every MMO there's just going to be gear that, like it or not, some people will never get.

There should be some content that everyone has a fair shot at, but at the same time the game should retain those epic, extremely hard NMs/contents that only the best of the best are able to beat and get drops from. I feel like extremely hard battles are one of the things that define an MMO, and since XIV is headed towards a battle-based storyline, I feel like the game should have it's epic battles that only the few at the top are able to beat. If you don't like it then sorry :/ The people who are absolutely against hardcore-content should go play Hello Kitty Adventure Land or something.

I also don't think that the game should be dumbed-down just to appease QQ-ers, if you're unable to get something before 2.0, or even post-2.0, then /callthewaaahmbulance.

I see a lot of confusion so let met precise something.

Difficulty is not time-consuming. Time and difficulty are 2 separate and different things.
Most of the time, something time-consuming is not difficult : when you bash mobs for example. You simply do the same thing over and over and over again.

A way of defining difficulty would be the planning it requires before you do/fight something. Another would be the amount of errors you can make before wipe, or more precisely the amount of damage you take when you make mistakes.

Anyway the 2 concepts have to be separated.

they should kill the solo aspect and make mobs though as in ffxiv. I like soloing but come on, it comes at the price of making mobs into pussies.

I want to enfeeble a mob in order to win. to absolutely have to dispel it in order to survive.

You're talking about Timesinks, my friend, and that is exactly what we don't need in this game.
Ifrit isn't difficult at all. Most of the annoyances he does provide are caused by bad server(programming).

And I wasn't talking about timesinks.

I like people that keeps saying Ifrit isn't hard, what a joke. First kills literally takes over 100 attempts, of course it's easy after BG puts their video up which literally means they are holding our hands. Nothing can be difficult when you have done them so many times.

    What a joke.

To be on topic, yes on difficult content but not necessary the one with gimmicky 1shot, Salvage-type of content proved to be quite fun (except the droprate) and what i feel instanced content should be like, multiple path to choose and different way to obtain gears.

It is possible that 'difficult' (or more challenging) content is yet to come?
Presently the level CAP is at 50, and perhaps they feel that the content here should not be that challenging? Too much challenging content at early levels will discourage players from staying on. But having it at late levels will be less an issue as by the time you reach that level, you would already be 'hardcore' enough to want to stay on?

"Light" content, e.g Assaults (this alone could have been in place of Guildleves or Guildleves built around this, it has much more variance than eventually being a kill quest.)
"Light" content like Limbus except for bosses (which were challenges back when they were introduced, i.e Proto Omega/Ultima)
"Light" content like Missions with hard fights sprinkled in, CoP was almost perfect in this regard.
"Light/Hard" content like Campaign which varied depending on if you're doing OPs (Shadow Lord fight for example) or the plain battles.
"Hard" content like Dynamis, Sea Gods, Sky Gods, Shinryu (unless you brew it), Abyssea Zone bosses, Neo Omega etc.
"Hard" content like Salvage which was more strategizing than difficulty at times.

So on, XI had the perfect set up in terms of content, while people hated having to work with others (....) It scaled beautifully in terms of what was and wasn't a challenge. For example if SE were to introduce a new Bahamut fight in FFXI, it'll be a challenge, if they were to introduce a Bahamut fight in XIV, it'll be a push over because they have to please the casual playerbase as well as the "hardcore" playerbase so the overall difficulty would be set very low in order to fit all playstyles. Like Ifrit is a decent challenge, but realistically latency problems from poor servers optimization gave it the slight challenge it does have.
i agree 100%, nice post, and the best was the part with the first born

hmm i suck at playing games , but making the game harder generates more newbie/skill-less hater , and kills PUG.
so i think i say no, i mean i don't care how i get treated in anyway ,
but..just worrying about total population decreasing..
