There should be three grades of content:

    1) Short term
    2) Long term
    3) Difficult

I feel like much of the current content falls into the short term category. It's a good place for people who are new to cap to get some better gear -- before they dive into materia -- and learn more advanced tactics.

Long term are things like Dynamis and Relics. XIV desperately needs something like this soon. But a lot of people need to separate duration from difficulty. Relics weren't hard to obtain, they required only dedication. I know a lot of LSs even merc'd the Dynamis portions of a relic. Meaning one could obtain a relic without ever really doing Dynamis, aside from getting clearances. Still, an MMO should have some sort of optional long term goal that benefits those who go after it greatly.

Finally, the difficult aspect really hasn't been delivered yet. I have high hopes for the Crystal Tower Yoshida has mentioned a few times. These should be the optional bosses we remember from every Final Fantasy. Something without gimmicks that requires a group to perform at their best no matter how many times we do it.

There are ways to keep everyone happy. It just feels like we need to wait another year to get there.

In short, difficulty matters not because we will all figure it out. Let us have fun engaging content.
I think this post was spot on. Someone may rock at First Person Shooters and suck at Platformers. Difficulty is a personal experience, ultimately, no matter how it's designed.

There will always be people who dump 12+ hours into new content to be the first to beat it. So as a developer, SE needs to also find a balance. Who do they make it difficult for? Es pecially in XI's case where they're trying to add content in the same patches they're adding basic systems to the game?

It's not like there's already some of those semi-casual long term goals in the game that they can justify wasting a 1.x patch on something like ground kings. They're trying their best to add just enough to keep us busy till 2.0.

But I agree that "engaging" is a clearer word than the more ambiguous "difficult."

Nice, nice. Ppl asking for hard content, why not. I dont mind at all. However everything is instanced-oriented @full parties only. So my linkshell cant play and enjoy high-lvl content like DH or Ifrit - this is only for JP and US shells on the server where I am playing. We are 4 members in our shell and we cant play this.

What if there would be high-instanced content for light party "only" as well. So you could not enter with 8. But 4 would be the max. Wish tere would be at least one.

Please dont tell me Sh is content for light party 4/4, I dont want to hear that.

The content should be challenging. A great example of challenging are the promathian missions in the crags before they were fluffed so that the whiners would stop whining. Those were capped at level 30, challenging, and fun! The airship battles in the promathian missions were also challenging and fun.

HOWEVER, I do not like grinding content at all. It feels like work. If I wanted to do work, I would not be playing video games...

I also support the idea of not being able to "run away" unless you have earned some sprint ability. I don't like when I first go outside at level 1 being able to explore the world without earning it. I can run to any place in the world right off the bat... takes the challenge out of my adventure! NO FUN!

I cannot say whether or not the current content is fun or not. I havn't had the time to play because of school, but I can tell you that if it is too easy, it is not fun. My opinion is less mindless grind and more challenge, as it has always been.

I agree with the OP. I want more difficult content. Yoshi said he was going to make this game "like a fair" or whatever his analogy was in one of the Dev letters, but so far all I see is stuff that is easy mode. I think everyone should have stuff to do. If people like time consuming stuff, put it in the game. If people like easy-mode stuff, put it in the game, etc. And if someone doesn't like doing said activity, then don't do it and you can just miss out on the gear from it or whatever the drop is. Also, maybe they shouldn't put a min. party requirement on instanced content. That would give people something to do, trying to tackle some of the instanced content with less and less people. I know it's still too soon to tell how this game will end up being down the road so I guess we all just have to patient. I just hope they bring on the hard content. I also like time consuming stuff, guess I'm weird on that one. Mythic weapons anyone?

    YOSHI THINK WOULD YOU???
Can you put a a KKK member with a black person in a room together?
it's like trying to turn on a FIRE Underwater.

Make the game with 3 type of server- EASY NORMAL HARD-

    have Noob server and
    hardcore server

Either you do that Or you lose it all-
There's people that will never change there mind.
You Can't put humans with humans it's absolutely impossible to convince two sides to agree.

EVEN IF SOME AGREES a majority of the group will not.

That's why there's MMO with two type of servers
STRICTLY PVP SERVER and STRICTLY PVE SERVER
as WELL AS STRICTLY ALL LEVEL PVP SERVER

to fix that make a NOOB server and a HARDCORE server-
the noobs are (The Casual players) lols...
the hardcore are (players who wants challenge and competition and people who has time to play)

    Problem Solved !!!

Or just leave things as is and add some hard content.. that way we have a balance of easy, medium and hard content on all servers.
