Dress is not a synonym to Robe.
The idea is to have some form of clothing that isn't typical, that alsp compliments the male form, at least that's my perception of it. The only skirts we have ingame are the Plain Long Skirt, and the Uraeus Skirt. Hakama is not a casual skirt, it's traditional Japanese battle attire. Something like the "Ramie Skirt" is not actually a skirt either, it's just a pair of pants with hanging fabric off the sides to imitate a skirt.
The two skirts we have at the moment fall into an all-purpose, and a school-girl type skirt, keeping that in mind, we essentially have a single skirt to use on everything, but it isn't variety. A Hakama that isn't Job-locked (unlike the Asuran/Yasha Hakama) would be well appreciated, considering the Yukata-clothing we got for earlier Moonfire Faires. This is just an idea of what potentially the devs can add to allow players to wear, it's not forcing players to wear these clothes and share these ideals.

That's one of the points we're making, in a way. Why do people act like the sky is falling when people request unlocking the female-only/unisex glamour sets fully, when there are lots of 'feminine' outfits available? The fact that they added a fashionable dyeable glamour miniskirt a while back says a lot more about what Square-Enix think about men in skirts than vague assertions about how 'Japanese people are shy about crossdressing'.
But back to actual skirts.
The Plain Long Skirt looks a bit unexciting on me so I'm lucky I main casters (plenty of choice for skirts there). It would be nice to see a few of the job-specific ones opened up for everyone like the Uraeus Coat was before; the yukata/hakama look is extremely popular on my server, and they could stealthily throw in an unlock for the Spring Skirt in the same update since it harms nobody to do so and it's already modelled for all character types anyway. A few of the HW palette-swapped long caster skirts look absolutely great on men too, and some even have pants built-in so you don't get any accidental wardrobe malfunctions when running up stairs or flying through certain dungeons if that annoys you. I'd love to be able to equip those on other jobs.
The lack of a level 1 glamour hakama model in particular feels like a huge omission, though. On my Japanese server I see tons of people trying to emulate a full traditional Doman look with the tools available and not being able to do so on most of the game's jobs is a shame.
Feel all the same to me.
i'd like to wear heavy armor on my BLM but it's job locked too, but I don't complain.
Ok, but what if the armour you wanted to wear - let's say the Wootz set or something - was locked away to women or Lalafell or something even after you switched to tank to achieve that look? It would suck, right? We're only complaining about decisions which make no sense and have been applied apparently randomly. They're at least moderately consistent about armour types and roles.
While it's outside of the scope of this particular complaint, I agree that it would be nice to be able to use some heavy armour pieces on casters too. If it's good enough for Papalymo it should be possible for the incredible Warrior of Light to figure something out; maybe the healer/caster contest winner will sort this out :s
There's so many things in this game that are non-sense that I stopped really caring about the non-sense of this game anymore. I just take it as it comes 'cause I have no power on its development but I still enjoy playing it.
That's fine, but I prefer to take a more proactive stance. If the squeaky wheel gets the oil, I can be very squeaky if I have to. My hope is that doing it in a fun and friendly way will get us the right kind of attention, rather than getting stuck going around and around yet another circular debate that just gets nastier with each revolution.
Today's outfit is a little bit sexy, featuring my favorite bottoms in the game. I had to trot out my poor, neglected Paladin for this shot, because these amazing pants are tank-only! Of all the possible glamour in the world of Eorzea, a unisex, all-classes, dyeable bottom piece with this sort of design (shorts + thigh-highs) is my dearest wish.
And I should have said this earlier, but to whichever mod swooped in and cleaned up the troll posts, thank you very much! I hope you like the pictures.

Hey, that would almost be a perfectly acceptable way to implement the female-only Bridesmaid's Tights to fit men, achieving dyeable shorts and thigh highs in a way that doesn't break the game for anyone. They already have the graphics and the thigh parts can plausibly pass as a stiff fabric rather than plate!
I also like how SpiritMuse showed the Succubus Horns on a man. Male bunnies have ears, yet male FFXIV characters can't have bunny ears. Meanwhile, succubi are by definition female-only yet the horns are unisex and look perfectly good on a guy. The inconsistency.
What about hairstyles though? I am advocating both glamours and hairstyles being equal and available despite gender.
I find it really unfair that the content of any sort is gated based on your in-game gender. I am not sure what the point of it is.
Look at this fanart male Lightning with Lightning's hairstyle, I mean... I'd like that too.
And even Y'shtola's attire that I originally bought when I played as female.. Come on.. No one can pull an 'absurd' card on those.
EDIT:
I know this is off-topic, and I apologise, but I figured you guys might like more stuff (read: food for the eyes) by the artist who painted the male Lightning.

Also a fair point; the trigger for the latest campaigning was, after all, an outfit which gave female characters access to a bonus premium hair style (which also makes no sense for those with female characters in a different way, but at least they have the choice).
My character looks very feminine indeed with the recent bun updo that was added a few patches ago; it looks like something his grandmother would wear! But having the option is pretty great for those who think it suits their character, and I know those with female characters want access to lots of short hairstyles just as much as men want the option for more delicate styles. I'm sure unlocking the HW Y'shtola, HW Thancred and Minfilia hair (plus Snow/Lightning) would be well received.
