A message by a Square old fan

    Hello everyone.
I'm italian (sorry for my bad english), i'm a old player of Squaresoft titles, like Xenogears, Final Fantasy Saga, Vagrant Story and others.
I've played Final Fantasy XI for 8 years and i don't think you can feel my pain for Final Fantasy XIV.

First all, about the earthquake, i hope everyone and everything is safe. ^^
I have to thank Mr. Akihiko Yoshida, Nobuo Uematsu, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Hiromichi Tanaka, Yasumi Matsuno and even Hironobu Sakaguchi (still hoping for Mist Walker news about the Europe ) for all the masterpieces you've created in this years.

I play no more Final Fantasy XIV actually and i tell you why:

I think that there are only 3-ways for MMORPGs: Eve, Final Fantasy brand and World of Warcraft. Three different point of views and my favourite is Final Fantasy for sure. But why? I love the FF saga atmosphere, the feeling of the game, the visual art, background music and more. I totally love the world of Final Fantasy XIV (thank you Mr. Yoshida ), but it's empty: there's no NPC, no quests around the world. Grind-game are dead actually, you know.

I cannot wait 32 hrs for the same 8 quest,
i can't wait 30 minutes until i get the new crystal gate,
i can't play a PC game without the drag and drop system (@ 2011)
i can't play a MMORPG with the crazy retainer system
i can't play a MMORPG with a ripetitive rock background music while i have to run for 50 minutes around the empty world because i have to kill 2-3 mobs.

    Return to Fantasy.

    Please,
Should i remind you that Final Fantasy XIV is a PC game?
I'm very disappointed about the game, because i love FF' serie and the Square Dev team behind the title.

I'm still waiting for you and i hope you can make a true PC game as soon as possible.

    Return to Fantasy. (link)

You sure you played FFXI the whole 8 years?
You sure you even played it at all?
If you did, then you know with FFXI it took patience, I see none with this post.

Okay, now everybody argue while I sit back and watch this /popcorn thread.

    I'm sure, of course.
I play since the japanese release (yes, import for the win), when RoZ still was in development.

"Patience" and "Stress" are two difference things.
As "Clear" and "Blind" after all.

Well, then you know there was a lack of a lot of things in XI as there is in XIV. After some "time" passed by, the game got progressively better, especially when the RoZ xpack was released. Your version of stress and patience seem to entwine with each other.

Because when it came out there weren't all those MMORPGs. And because it was the first MMO of Squaresoft.
    We are in 2011 now.

This is still a first for SE, with this implementation of a DX10/11 game, it is new...er...This is indeed 2011, but, it is the primitive years of DX10/11 gaming brosefinator.

Define "things" that you mention - in fact, quantify them if you can. It should be easy considering you feel that both [FFXI and FFXIV] have the same amount of "things" lacking...

I think you have generally misunderstood what the OP is conveying which is that FFXI was enjoyable to play from the beginning, and that it also either continued to stay enjoyable or became even [I]more[I] enjoyable after some "time" passed by and "things" were added. However, FFXIV hasn't remained enjoyable to play despite some "time" and "things" being added to it; which I would agree as well - personally.

... regardless of how a game is similar to X-game, regardless of how a game isn't similar to Y-game, or even regardless of how a game is one of its kind, a game is fun to play simply because it's fun to play for no other reason because of the game in its entirety. For whatever arguable reason out there FFXIV isn't fun to play for many players who very much so enjoyed playing FFXI for however long of a time.

Your version of objectivity is tantamount to Sara Palin's. Don't choke on that popcorn of yours...

The problem is, it isn't the S-E they used to be. Sakaguchi left years ago, Tanaka stepped down, many original core team members left after FFXIII finished. I'm not entirely sure what's going on over there, but it seems (in my completely subjective opinion) that quality has been slipping for some time. I was disappointed with FFXIV originally as well, but you can't deny the development team has been making strides in improving usability since launch, and more specifically, since Naoki Yoshida took over as director and producer.

Right now, FFXIV is in much the same state FFXI was at launch. Things will get better with time, and right now, they're not even charging, so it's not like it costs anything to stick around and see how it pans out.
