    Timeline

This has been nagging at me for quite some time now, and with the latest patch, (trying to keep it spoiler free) we have an instance of a character mentioning 6 years.

Herein lies the problem, since we know that 1.x was officially stated to have taken place over one year's time, at least from the world's point of view, then we also have the calamity that took us away for a period of 5 years (for us legacies), which then brings us to the events of ARR and then (after a period of two weeks between 2.55 and 3.0, I believe it was stated) wherein HW starts.

The events this character mentions, for all of non-legacies, we get it, it doesn't effect them, but for the people who /have/ been around since the beginning, like myself, this further brings this whole thing into question, not only for the purpose of why it would effect us in the first place, but when it would've taken place and where we are now.

I hate to say it, but I'm only taking official statements as proof of fact on this, I'm not taking yearly events, as those only reflect the outside world. (however, the year of the horse event does have some statements for and about Doma)1

You do have a very strong point, however based on the calamity remember Legacies were saved by time distortion and later to reappear with no one remembering any recollection of their names or who they were. ( Similar to one of the FF story lines.) Over all most of the answers you seek can be found in the Eorzea Encyclopedia Vol 1. I don't want to spoil it for you but it's worth getting. I love how may different story lines / areas from previous FF come together in one way or another. Also you can edit your post do to character limit and keep everything in one post.

Yeah it'd be nice if it were actually on sale every now and again, so go right ahead, spoil it away, though I would argue that both Una Tayuun and Minfilia remembered the warriors of light, as did some of the more minor characters.

The recent Christmas event actually made mention of an alchemist quest from back then, though one of my BIGGEST pet peeves over the more recent events is the fact most ascians today can be seen with shadows, which not only goes against their own lore, but... hey, their own music.

Regardless, Legacies gave up their information, it kinda bothers me that there's a privileged few with books that only want to bring up lore when it's as a means to correct someone, but just horde the knowledge for themselves otherwise... Why won't SE just at least allow people to prepurchase the book with at least a pdf to tide them over in the mean time....

Not meaning to keyboard warrior or anything, just... eh.

The only conclusion then, is that we're still in the same year as ARR, and... we never knew the real Yda, even as Legacy players...

So yeah, after looking over the book, it still doesn't reference that we're anywhere near 1578, still not making any reference after the 1577 date, which would imply, 6 years ago, the events in gyr abania in 1571, a year before the events of 1.x, and 6 years before the events of ARR, would've been when the character would've most likely perished

It's the curse of the MMO time bubble. This was a similar thing in FFXI when the Crystal War was constantly referred to as having happened 20 years ago, even with expansions released years later. So while we can infer time is indeed passing from lore hints and dialogue, it will be passing at a crawl as to not force necessary dialogue updates. If this seems jarring now, just wait until we're in 6.0 and Bahamut was still "5 years ago".
