Considering how much SE tends to shy from having any character past 25 in the "main character" slot of a Final Fantasy I figured this was exactly what happened.I have a darksteelfoil hat theory that Square Enix really wanted Yda to be a hot-headed, revenge-driven youth hells-bent on reclaiming Ala Mhigo for Stormblood, but given that Yda was hanging in the balance of 20 years of half-fulfilled plot threads going from fighting in 1557 up through being unexpectedly aged a further 5 years by the jump to ARR, having the Lady in Red be Yda, pushing (if not over) 40 years old (with barely any character development or personal growth since the fall of Midgardsormr back in '62) didn't work very well, so they copped right out of it and put her back in the frame of a 20-something off to kick some Imperial ass.
After sometime to reflect, I wish that we had gotten a bit more for foreshadowing on Doma. There has been so little mention of Doma/the Far East in the game when compared to all of the buildup they have done for Ala Mhigo that I'm afraid that the Orthard/Doma plot going to end up like the Ul'dah plot in Heavensward, but with a new city and housing district. Everytime I had to back to Ul'dah in the middle of the Heavensward plot it felt awkward and disjointed and ending up being a disservice to both plot threads. Hopefully they will integrate the two threads better in Stormblood.

We'll probably get more of a reason to go to Doma in Stormblood itself, as it stands right now, we're heading beyond the wall. We've had seeds planted for Doma, but the story isnt going there just yet.Considering how much SE tends to shy from having any character past 25 in the "main character" slot of a Final Fantasy I figured this was exactly what happened.

Some missing links from the ending. Where was Thancred and the Ascians in all this? You'd think at least Elidibus would of wanted to see the conclusion of his transaction with the Griffin.

The way I see it is this. Illberd is driven by his loss of Ala Mhigo, but he knows the Eorzean alliance wouldn't try to take it back without a reason to. He gathered followers, and manipulated them into thinking they could somehow take Balsars Wall, but that wasn't the true plan. The real plan was to jumpstart Eorzea, and Garlemald into war by attacking the wall, and summoning a primal. Obviously the Garleans would blame Eorzea, and take the false attack as an act of war. The fact that the attackers wore fake grand company uniforms, made it even easier to blame, and sacrificing them only made it harder to prove. The primal may also have other purposes. It could possibly be used to attack Ala Mhigo, or Garlemald. This HW ending wasn't meant to be as flashy, or dramatic in my opinion. It was meant to make us think. I'm still very excited for Stormblood.
Yda + Lyse = Ydalyse. Ivalice? Ivalice confirmed.
Perhaps we were spoil by the ending of 2.55 and the beginning of heavensward is the reason why we felt disappointed by the end of 3.55-3.56. I hope the beginning of stormblood is as good as heavensward.

not really.
nobody was expecting a big set up like the end of 2.5 but we at least were expecting a little closure to it all.
instead we got someone on stage bending over and farting. followed by the curtains closing and the ushers pushing everyone towards the exit wich was blocked by booths selling tickets to the next play >_>
if they didnt hold on to the last part of the story like it was a big deal then maybe the disappointment would be more manageable

While unavoidable, I'm just going to meet this with no grand expectations of lifting oppression or that we should face this chipper as Alisaie. We are waging a war, end of story. whatever talk of having no choice doesn't amount to beans.
Cillia, you and I clearly have different ideas about...obligations..., so I'll just say I don't agree that "can" means "should" so readily.

Oh this is by no means a good situation Its a mess we have handed to us hand have to deal with. Garlemald isn't going to just let this slide. In there eyes the EA attacked their wall and more serious, summoned a primal. Just the summoning of a primal of that level would cause Garlemald to go high alert. Its summoning and the mess it made is almost certainly the main thing the Garlean leadership would be talking about. If Eorzea was a thorn in the side of Garlemald before, now its an infected wound and quite likely something that cant be left alone anymore. While unavoidable, I'm just going to meet this with no grand expectations of lifting oppression or that we should face this chipper as Alisaie. This isn't a great situation to be walking into but it usually never is. I suspect though that things haven't even truly started. I think that will happen when we see Zenos play his hand.
