Too short, just like most of the content patches. Feels like SE are phoning it in now with HW MSQ.

This is because they streamlined the story patches in Heavensward due to everyone complaining about how ARR story patches had too much filler and fetch quest content in them. What we have now is ARR story patches without running halfway across Eorzea 4x in a row to deliver a message to an NPC in order to progress through it. They could add more stuff to them but people would just complain again.
No, these MSQ each patch after 3.2-3.3 has been super short. With SE tieing up loose story quest with lame solutions. Just see warriors of darkness, minfilia, the sultana. This is because they streamlined the story patches in Heavensward due to everyone complaining about how ARR story patches had too much filler and fetch quest content in them. Because people complained that 2.1-2.55 was soooo looonnggggg and sooo borriinnggg. When that is the main way those story patches are described, what would you expect SE to do with future content?
I expect better resolution or integration of certain elements. So instance, warriors of darkness was tease at the end of 2.55, I can't recall them ever posing as a threat or recall how many scenes they were in? Then we beat them and they were gone. I don't think players are complaining about the length of the MSQ, just the quality of it.

It's like next we find out Minfilia's name is actually Nancy and she just copied the persona of someone that inspired her. .... ok. So what?
..and Papylmo dying was plenty of reason for Yda to go in a new direction... this silly "reveal" was completely unnecessary.
Those poor WoD came in, didn't do anything particularly bad and vanished.... umm ok.
I feel like the entire last patch was just a big signpost that says "You're going to Doma!" or whatever... not really any quality to the storytelling.
I am REALLY on the fence now how Stormblood if it is going to be some kind of corny sumo-esque parody.

I bet one of the big reveals of SB will be the fact that Yda is still alive but being held somewhere or something. That's my guess..
I mean, it's not like they weren't successfully goading the beast tribes to summon more frequently and beating them down with the goal that it would lead to an escalation that could tip the balance toward a calamity...particularly since we were very much made aware of how weak Hydaelyn had become at that point...I expect better resolution or integration of certain elements. Or they weren't then trying to kill us as part of an interesting bit of subterfuge by one of our meant to play both sides for the greater good.
Oh..wait.
Honestly, it sounds like you're conflating "I didn't like it" with "It's not any good."
There's a lot that happens in stories that is unnecessary.
Being necessary or unnecessary has little bearing on whether a story element is interesting, or can be used for something more interesting later. Revealing that Yda had such a significant secret is unnecessary. But it's also interesting.
Also, for the WoD, they were on track to escalate the beast tribes into summoning primals more and more, possibly even turning to new ones...at a time when Hydaelyn was incredibly weak. Until she got the boost from saving the 1st world, she was at the tipping point of another calamity and destroying another shard. But I guess that doesn't count as particularly bad.
That would at least give us some payoff for the mostly pointless reveal of "SURPRISE! The only person you've ever known to be Yda turns out to be someone else entirely, even though for all intents and purposes, from your perspective they just changed their name and outfit, since you know, they've been the same person you've known all along."
