Monk is my second/third class and therefore i have the gear ready when samurai hits ff14. I also saved 20+ tomes from the primals to get glamour or in zurvan case weapons for ilvl. Then i will make sure to have enough tomes/books, if something is missing. When i start playing the class, the first step is palace of the dead, because i want to see (at least) the level 60 skills for the new job and test them a bit. That said, i won't waste a huge amount of time learning everything before a guide hits, because my focus will be healer![]()

Don't have to prepare anything.
Already main Mnk/Blm since ARR.
I was born for this moment !!
I guess some other things:
Cap leves
Crafters to 60, cause who really wants to repair at a repairer?
Might not be a bad idea to stock up on some materia.
Consider getting 50-60 accessories for them while they're cheap.
Level chocobo
Good chocobo food
Cap GC seals
Let's assume you're just going to be using that weapon to level from 60-70, getting a creator savage weapon would be handy if you have it on farm, if not I would expect getting a Zurvan or Sophia weapon would be good enough to start into level 60 content. By the time you get the jobs to 60 you could probably even have an upgraded shire weapon. You can buy the micro tome right now along with the scripture tokens and just sit on them.I think you're definitely on the right track in terms of your preparation strategy. I myself am considering a swap to Samurai in Stormblood, and what you're doing is identical to what I have been planning. Farm out as much from Final Coil and Creator Savage as possible, and if you have A12S on farm, I suggest you save 8 pages in a retainer to have them reserved for the Katana, so you have an immediate i275 weapon when you reach lv.60.
I am preparing by playing as a dps now almost exclusively. I have always mained a healer in most mmo (ffxi red mage was a support/healer). But since my new main will be red mage getting used to the idea of slow queues and ither random stuff.
I am:
- augmenting full Ironworks armour sets for both RDM & SAM
- collecting Scripture tokens and gears from A12N for a weapon in the event of there being one
- maxing Aetherpool for a weapon in the event of there being one
- collecting current BiS gear (outside of Savage raids, as I don't run those anymore) for BLM & MNK to equip at 60
- obviously theorizing glamours, because I'm not a monster
I'll probably spend the few days of early access doing the same as I did for MCH when 3.0 released. I'll level RDM as best I can to 60 and start in Stormblood as a Red Mage after the early access period, while leveling SAM more casually on the side. I'm much more excited for RDM and intend to learn it very well.
Well thankfully I'm good on RDM gear (I've got both SMN and BLM with i230-i260 at the moment). Weapon will be the only new thing.
SAM will take some work, but shouldn't be hard to outfit. I'm pretty good on gil/tomes/etc flow. SAM does have me interested, since I can't seem to stay interested in melee DPS. RDM being a hybrid of range and melee is quite appealing to me.
Surprised to see so many people getting gear that won't matter if you do POTD which will be the fastest way to level the two jobs. Myself I'm not preparing for them at all as gear will be reset anyways so I will just get stormblood gear as I level up.
im suprised that people will waste the chance to explore the potentials of truly new cls' by POTD grinding... sad really, really sad... : /
edit: just waiting for the first "How to rota" thread request ^^
already did that as well x'D
especially for SAM... Sephiroth, Auron, Raiden, 2B/A2.... oh and for sure getting a fantasia becoming a Miqo again: Inuyasha cosplay <3
