I'm not even sure how anyone keeps such close track of these. I think it's because I have the notification thing on a different chat tab, so I literally never notice when or why I get any.

I always get commendations on my SMN.

As a tank, my commendation will only default to the healer if the party is dead silent and everyone does there job and isn't terrible. But if anyone else is making the duty more lively, helpful, or brings some sort of enjoyment to the instance, then I gladly comm them instead.

I usually get at least 1 com as Tank or Healer, 1+ com in single run is quite often for these two role too
as a DPS, getting a com is about 60-70%
I might have some explanation for it, as a Tank, I have to focus on building aggro to each mob in large pull, keeping my CD pop at right time, and dodging AOE, so as a Tank, the healer performance is more noticeable to me, the same way goes for my Healer, I have to prioritize healing tank, so my focus will be on tank
but when I play DPS, all i need is focus doing my rotation, popping buff at right time, using utility when needed, I barely notice other DPS, unless the run is getting very slow, not to mention, utility from DPS isnt very noticeable when everyone focusing on their job
I only play as SCH and MNK/MCH, and I get commendations pretty often. As SCH I'm doing dps pretty much all the time and shield before pulls, so I guess that's a reason to get commends, maybe. And I'm kinda surprised by how often I get 3 commendations as DD, nice glamours/character or high dps, that's a mistery.
But when it comes to give commendations, I only give them to people who show they are above the average player and also kind or fun to play with.
I get 1-2 almost every dungeon I run.
I don't do anything special for them. I just melt things as quickly as I can. The only time I talk is to say "hi" at the beginning, too.
I give priority to the other dps for commendations but if their dps was bad or they never aoed during trash pulls then they forfeit it. I honestly don't care how good your single target damage is, if you don't help me aoe during large trash pulls then you're still bad in my eyes. It's pretty sickening whenever you're paired with Monks that don't AOE. I just want to yell at them. YOU DO KNOW MONK HAS THE BEST MELEE AOE DAMAGE. IT'S A HUGE WASTE NOT TO BE USING IT.

i noticed i get way lass than back in 2.x times as a healer.
back then i got 1 -2 comms almost every run, today maybe 1 comm in 4 runs. and all what has changed in my performance is that i dps more than in 2.x days >.>
In 2x I would have given you the commendation as well, because to that time, there were not much healers that would keep STR tanks alive or wouldn't start to complain right at the start because you had 3 times less HP than the Vit tanks. Right now, it's different because 3.x made it so easy for healers, no offense to keep even the most clumsy people alive while even dps'ing. I think that plays a huge factor as well .
Probably depends on what DPS you're playing as too.
I imagine it's substantially easier to get comms as a Bard compared to any other DPS because it is very, VERY easy to notice if a Bard isn't using their utility skills (or even attacking correctly at all). A Bard that can manage that AND dish out really high DPS is likely something most people in DF only see once a month, if at all. A difference in skill level between Bards is something that is easily noticeable, whereas players of melee classes that have less AoE/support options appear to all play the same at first glance, unless they're really, really bad.

In a run where no one really talks I get very few as dps and almost always get 2 or more on healer/tank. Unless something happens during the run I guess people kinda default into tanks/healers.
