I actually get more coms as a dps or healer, than I do as a tank. It's why I rarely play a tank anymore. From a tanks point of view we don't get as many comm's as people think we do. Or at least I don't despite doing everything in my power to make the run as fast and smooth as I can for everyone. If I had to guess I would say 50-60% go to the healer, cause healers are the only role you can't live without. 20-30% to the DPS, cause it's better then comm'ing that tank that already gets enough as is. And 10-20% to the tank, cause the DPS stood in the fire and the healer can't comm him/her self. But that's just my point of view on things.
As for me when DPS'ing: Tank >> Healer* >> good/same DPS >> Friendly person >> Person with good glamour >> no one gets one.
*Starts here when I'm a tank.
Well in all fairness, I will back the guy who said most tanks bolt before you can Com them... so you have to be quick about it or you can't give them props for a good job. From a tanks point of view we don't get as many comm's as people think we do. I frequently get 2 comms in a run as bard. Sing foe req and do good dps. Dps healers like foe. Other dps usually comms as well
Personally, I think that either tanks and healers getting most comms is a misconception, or there truly has been an over correction the other way based on that misconception. Most of my comms are actually from when I mained BRD. My healer comms.... eh, it seems kind of random. One dungeon I may do amazing, straight carrying the dps through it, and keeping a very squishy tank alive. And... zero comms. Another I may be running as SCH to get a bit of practice with my least played healer job, and walk away with 2.
Part of it may simply be that fewer people even comm at all anymore.
I ran groups of 2 ( me and a friend) and groups of 3, we frequently see people simply not coming, other times I would get all 3 as sch solo.Personally, I think that either tanks and healers getting most comms is a misconception, or there truly has been an over correction the other way based on that misconception. Usually feels like I get coms just at random but I get a fair chunk for rezzing someone before the healer does or circle tanking enemies if the tank dies for whatever reason. Though I did find people enjoy seeing an over geared DPS in alexander normal runs when I got like 5 coms for just doing my thing.
Oh hey nothing was here
To be honest, I usually give my comms to the players that do not drop group and zone out as soon as the run is finished. How can you give a comm to someone who is gone.
I've found that when I heal I tend to get a guaranteed one commendation and often get two, very rarely get three.
When I'm a dps I get one commendation maybe 6-7 times out of 10. I pretty much never get two or three.
I'm up to about 50 so far on this character (level 30-40).
My former main character that I was just a summoner on hit level 60 and barely had above 20. Then again I tended to not do any duties outside of the main storyline.
I think something that helps a lot is being friendly and saying hello at the start and 'thanks all' at the end.

I play either role in dungeons. If I play healer, I'll give it to the DPS that impresses me with their numbers or a tank that is a beast with DPS and cooldowns management. As a DPS, my order is Healer that DPS > Amazing tank > Amazing DPS. As a tank it's Healer that DPS > DPS that impressed me. A healer that never DPS will never receive my comm.
However, sometimes you'll get paired up with pre-made 2/4 or 3/4 groups, since they can't commendate to each other, they are most likely going to commendate YOU if you did a good job or your job.
I don't commend anyone who remains mute throughout a run. Normally, someone would have to be at least a little friendly to earn my commendation but these days I have learned to be grateful if they so much as say hello. If both say hello, my friend and I split our commendations between them, if I'm alone then I'll decide based on who was more friendly/noteworthy typically. Otherwise, I don't give much attention towards how good a player is. I don't feel this is a game where people can be "impressive" honestly speaking, so I'd much rather encourage those who can at least distinguish themselves from bots.
I'll also commend people who fail a bit/a lot if they are polite and very apologetic about it since I appreciate that in a person and I don't like them to leave totally discouraged. So in short, a person's class as zero impact on my decision.
