Currently there are not any new or additional information, but we should be hearing from them soon, if they still planning on moving the data centers in may. However I doubt there will be any promotions added.
No new information but it's unlikely that they'll offer transfers. They only offered transfers *from* the EU Datacentre when it moved & not *to* it for those of us in the EU playing on other NA Datacentres. EU playerbase is certainly not a major priority for them.
See also: The promotion fiasco.
Though in fairness, one could argue that back then, the transfer away from and not to the datacenter was justified because the service would worsen for NA players on EU servers through the move, whereas it would stay the same for EU players that stayed back on NA servers. But with that same argument, they'd have to offer the transfer the other way now.
We'll see. SE has become considerably more cash-grabby of late, so I personally expect them to move it to the far west coast and go:"18 bucks pls".
Actually, that could suggest that they might offer it now. Offering NA players a free transfer off of the EU worlds when they moved to the EU was to give people an option of avoiding a degradation of service. But back then there was no degradation of service for EU players on NA worlds, so that transfer off of them (to take advantage of improvement rather than avoid a degradation) was not free.
This time, EU players may indeed have a degradation of service if they're playing on NA worlds, so a free transfer to the Chaos data center would be in line with what SE offered before. (Though it may well depend on just how much of a degradation is involved.)
And people in Australia and NZ forget that they are still a minority compared to North America. There is very little reason to give NA players a shittier experience to make up for your infrastructure. If it were truly a priority, they could put a server in Sydney or something and let you guys connect over bailing twine or whatever you have for connections more easily. It's not called the "North America and also the other side of the world" data center. They really shouldn't be moving it to the West Coast to help a small, small minority.
No one is saying anything of the sort, just that moving it down form Canada would benefit us as a side effect of that move. The NA data center isn't for NA players first and foremost over anyone else, it was simply chosen as a site due to the the fact it has one of the largest concentration of players there that would benefit. And people in Australia and NZ forget that they are still a minority compared to North America. This may be news to you but the data centers are actually world wide with locations chosen where the majority will benefit, and players are encouraged to join the one that will give them the best experience.
Do you really think the small percentage of Aus/NZ players has anything to do with this if it would as you say make it worse for all the players in NA?
Also, the data center never would have been placed up north in Montreal in the first place if it didn't have to factor in the EU players.

I don't know your reasoning behind that. It's more likely that the Montreal location was due to tax breaks &/or the already established SE presence. Many EU players don't benefit from Montreal any more than if it was placed anywhere on the East Coast of North America. Depending on the actual connections used even places like Dallas, Texas could have better connectivity (reduced latency & hops). It's not just a single Transatlantic cable anymore (thank goodness!).
It's a mix of several things. Eidos was acquired by SE Europe back in 2009 and to this day is controlled by that subsidiary. It had a studio & offices in Montreal that had about 350 employees at the time. There was an article before ARR which talked about a new DataCenter dealing with Eidos Montreal, which turned out to be the NA DC for ARR.
While EU players were likely part of the reason the DC was located there, I believe one of the main reasons was they already had an established office there since 2009. Which makes sense considering it was the first time outside of Japan that they established a MMO DataCenter. Which they could have in house employees oversee and manage it.
So by that logic, you're saying they should also give us a free day of sub every time maintenance lasts for a whole day. While that would be great, yes, I'd say we should be glad that they're giving us free time at ALL for maintenance that's been deemed necessary. They could've just as easily decided we don't get extra time at all and just treat it the way they do with major patch maintenance. So if NA servers are down for a max of 48 hours, we are only getting a compensation for 1 day? Come on SE you can do better then this! If we can't play for 48 hours then you should give us 2 days compensation. There is 24 hours in a day. Learn to do your math. We all pay a subscription to this game, so I feel that we should get 2 days compensation.
