I am completely for this going forward. While I wouldn't mind the cities going back to being seamless, I am fine with 2.0 and 3.0 areas staying as they are just so it wouldn't take forever. Not to mention be less appealing to the devs.

Please, consider making zones seamless as we move forward. There is a LOT to be said about the immersion of seamless zones flowing into one another. It is a poor excuse to say there would be but large stretches of nothing as there should be content to fill the world. Other games nailed this years ago and there is no reason FFXIV couldn't. Even if that were the case, the freedom is its own reward.

I cannot overstate how much I want seamless zones to return to FFXIV, but much better this time. That means no copy/paste and many chances for encouraged exploration with swimming and so forth. This is near the top of my wish list and while I don't expect it soon, Kugane gives me hope.

The split between the two parts of the 3 original cities should go away. I don't care about the other areas but the unnecessary load time is annoying since you are moving like 5 steps away. It also kills game immersion since you can walk from one area with people to another area and those people don't exist anymore. Where did all those people next to limsa aetherite go? oh they just don't exist anymore.

Buy a SSD, load times will be <5 seconds, which is the same that would take you to climb up the stairs to reach Upper Decks.

Will not work with the current design of the maps. There is a gap between most zones and the zoneline just teleport you to the other end of the gap. Making it seamless mean redesigning the zones to close the gaps.
And then have fun with 2 minute stair climbing in CT 2 ^^

The Ul'Dah Adventurer -> MB screen, even though it is like 1 second for me, is so annoying lol. If they could make it seamless I'd be cool with the aetheryte staying put but until then I really want them to move that stupid aetheryte - in the dead of night I'm going to perform a heist on that bugger >.>.

I would love to see the world become seamless but the amount of extra terrain that'd be required is actually quite a lot, since most of the zones don't line up right now. Maybe in an expansion if they add flying to the ARR areas and a bunch of new content is placed in the world that makes it reasonable to design more area (like being able to fly The Floating City of Nym, well at least what is left above and below lol).

The only way I could see them having resources to do it is if they release some distant future expansion in the same vein as FFXI's Wings of the Goddess pack, where the player revisits familiar areas but in a different point in time. If they focused that expansion back on the original ARR areas but in some alternate dimension, they could potentially use it as an excuse to rework existing maps (for the new dimension or time-travel variant) and get double the benefit from the effort invested. The calamity situation makes that a bit awkward, though not impossible depending on how they work around things.

For now though, most people want to travel to the completely new parts of the world map.

I could see a future expansion rebuilding the 2.0 zones and the 3 city states. In doing so they could recombine zones spit due to PS3 limitations, add flying and swimming and level 50+ content to the zones.

Given that I travel via aethernet within the cities, the fact that they're not seamless really doesn't matter much. It's still a load screen each time anyway.

I can understand the idea of zone breaks to have zones be strikingly different. Otherwise you end up like WoW where you have desert, snow, and jungle sharing a small border. Not to mention everything of importance is hilariously close to each other. Gul'dan's stronghold is within viewing distance of the capital city of the expansion. Get some cannons and mages and bomb that island back to the stone age. Azys Lla on the other hand is off a massive distance from everything else and isn't conveniently located just above Ishgard for players to simply fly up to.

Even if the map is decently sized the world itself feels tiny. They stuff every zone type in a connected continent that can be traveled in only a few minutes.

Another Damian thread, another thoughtless idea. How many before people realise these are just troll threads.

To humour though, Flight won't happen in 2.0 areas due to the invisible ceiling not taking flight into account, so is too low for flight to take place. Areas are way to far apart from each other to be seamless, they would have to add in at least 3 expansion worth of areas to make it seamless. Just ridiculous.
