Resolution Troubles

I checked the Nvidia control panel, but all I see are the 3D settings. It says I have a driver version 378.92 with a GTX of 960M, but that was the one I downloaded recently to play Mass Effect. It was what I think caused the game to go all weird in the first place. I thought I rolled back on the version I downloaded to the previous version but maybe not...Even still, I'm willing to work with this version if it gets my game to work again somehow.

The best thing would be to make sure that both your Intel and Nvidia drivers are up-to-date, and then configure the Nvidia control panel to use "High-performance Nvidia processor" for FFXIV, like I mentioned in my previous post. I've seen cases where the switchable graphics don't work properly unless both drivers are updated.

Then check what your actual screen resolution is - gaming at 4k is tough even for fullsized desktops and really isn't something you want to be doing on a laptop with switchable graphics. At the very least, turn the in-game resolution down to 1920x1080 when you've figured out how to force the game onto the Nvidia GPU through the control panel. Check under "Manage 3D settings", go to the "Program Settings" tab and add ffxiv_dx11.exe and ffxiv.exe to the list, while making sure that they use "High-performance Nvidia processor", like this:

I did the thing, but the game is still acting strangely. I've also tried resizing the font in the chat, since all the words are so tiny, but even if I put them on the highest setting, they still don't change. I've also checked on my Intel and Nvidia drivers in my device manager, and they are both up to date.

That all looks good. Though, make sure that both the DX11 file and the regular one are added, just in case. Not sure which DirectX mode you're using.

At this point, I think you just need to lower the in-game resolution. As I said, you really don't want to be doing 4K gaming on laptop hardware, and your earlier screenshot indicates that you're using the 3840x2160 resolution. The good thing here is that 3840x2160 is exactly four times as large as 1920x1080, so you can just lower the resolution without stuff getting blurry and stretched like they normally do if you don't use the screen's native resolution.

Do you mean change my computer res to 1920x1080? I did that, and then changed the game res to 1920x1080 and everything's running smoothly again. Though it does drastically lower the res of my computer overall, though I guess I could switch back to 3940x2160 when im not on ff14

You can keep your Windows resolution at what it was before, but change FFXIV's ingame resolution to 1920x1080 as long as you're playing in Fullscreen mode:



It should have a pretty big performance impact since gaming at 3840x2160 means your GPU literally has to render four times as many pixels for every single frame and calculate effects for all those extra pixels.
