Harassing Healers - or: Please allow Parsers

Since it seems to be okay to harass healers who play subpar even in the official forums (healer dps topics all over the place), the argument against parsers is invalid.

Either allow the harassment of ALL roles or do something to >stop< the harassment of ALL roles

I didn't know it's harassment to ask people to please do something instead of standing around idle for 10+ seconds.

If I "did" do that as DPS regularly, though, I'd imagine I would receive harassment for it. Actual one at that.

Or how about: don't harass anyone, but encourage everyone to play well and effectively and be as good team members as possible.

Stop the harassment in general. That's enough. Parser or not.

... I'm actually okay with parsing being allowed, tbqh. That way we'd be able to encourage everyone to play better without making it obvious or punishable to call out under-performing DPS-ers

Depends what you define as harassing. if i see a healer standing around doing nothing (i've even some /dance) then i'll ask them to use that time to dps. that is not harassing.

If i go "hey healer get off your ass and actually contribute to killing things" that would be harassment.

Just people need to try and be friendly and remember that a lot of people are up for pointers if you are polite enough about it

How about this: everyone should try their best and not afk around for extended periods of time. This includes DPS and Healers alike.

Although I wouldn't be against a parser: harassment is still against the ToS, and it would give everyone tools to gauge their performance, as well as add a slight bit of more responsibility.

Yep, I can see where OP is comming from. Right now Healers are forced to dps or else they will be kicked/verbal abuse etc, because it will make the dungeon run go faster, but part of me wonders if the reason the dungeons take alot longer when healers do not deal damage is, because of low dps from damage dealers? I noticed often that DPS do not use their the skills that increase their dps and some also do not use certain skills like Heavy Thrust or the ones where they put a debuff so X or Y type of attack (slashing, piercing etc) can deal more damage, which increases the overall dps of the group.

I agree that healers that are doing nothing during combat, should dps, I do it aswell and it helps the group, but I feel that we should also talk about underpreforming dpsers and how we can help them improve. You dont need a tool to see that some of the dpsers are underpreforming, but maybe a official parser could help this community.

Allowing parsing merely trades one problem for another without solving the core issue.

I'm of the completely irrelevant opinion that everyone in a group should be expected to make their best effort at contributing to the group's success.
Parsing breaks the group's total effort into individual contributions - and that's just a recipe for one person to call out another for 'not doing enough' based on arbitrary comparisons.

"Best effort" means different things to different people; and the Twelve knows that the spectrum of players in endgame is incredibly wide, ranging from people fresh to the highest level, still feeling their way around their skills, to jaded veterans that have done it all a thousand times to people just logging in to have some fun to hardcore speedrunners.

When you play on DF you can get any of these, and often get a mix of them.
Of course we ought to poke people obviously slacking to put in a bit more - but pushing them far outside their comfort zone isn't a solution either ... perhaps we all ought to take a step back, take a deep breath and instead of focusing so hard on performance in (effectively) social content, accept the run will take a few extra minutes and try to guide and help people instead.

Of course, if they don't want to be helped, then you can start thinking about other, more dramatic solutions -- but that's on a case by case basis, not a blanket solution.

I'm not convinced that parsing is an enforceable thing if combat logs still go to a .txt file. What I do with a .txt file is my business. Especially one that is saved outside the game directory. So I'd say have at it. If they're not doing anything about harassment, then parsers are a go since it was under harassment that it wasn't allowed in the first place.

I have used Damage Dealer's DPS against them when they've accused me of being a 'bad' healer not even that long ago. I didn't need a parser for that. I merely looked at the bosses threat table. A, 2, 3, and 4. As a healer, I should be 4 (if AOEs aren't getting dumb). But there was a dungeon run where a guy died from standing in ground effects and complained that the fight took longer because I didn't Raise them. Raise cost 1500, I had 1200MP when he died (and because of the damage he took from dying).

Got them booted for being a jerk and bad DPS.
