i'm sorry, i could not help myself...

basically, the mount concept is to not mount anything at all. just a powerful sprint with noticeable dust wake animation behind the player as he sprints at an inhuman pace that rivals mounts. that's all... of course Ninjas and different sized models would have their own unique running animation.

the first three lines are just how i imagine obtaining the "mount" would be like. again, sorry.

Maybe could add an upgraded version with hyper jump like seen a few times with the above example (in flying areas) / Hydaelyn flying (when you're at the crystal you fly around).

Make it a crafting profession, where from levels 1-59 all you make are running shoes with no stats that are only wearable by Courier job. They sell to vendors for -1 gil, meaning you actually have to pay a gil to have them taken off your hands.

Every Courier job quest has you go to the Waking Sands in Vesper Bay and talk to Minfilia. She tells you she ordered something from Amascion.com but it hasn't shipped yet, and she's really in a hurry to get it -- like, a new hair straightener, or Advent Children on Blu-Ray. The Amascion offices are all way in the furthest tip of East Shroud, and you have to run there on foot. Using an Aetheryte, calling a mount, boarding an airship, using your Sprint ability, or even logging out, will cause the quest to fail and it must be picked up by talking to Minfilia again. Completing the quest awards no XP, and Minfilia just complains about how long it took. But you have to do the quest, or else you can't progress in levels.

At Level 60, the job quest is to complete every dungeon, trial, and raid -- on every difficulty -- as a Courier. Couriers can equip nothing but running shoes, and have no combat skills. Their role is designated as "Tank" for the purposes of Duty Finder.

Finally, after completing the 60 job quest, you unlock your ultimate crafting item -- an exclusive "Bicycle" mount. The materials are costly -- you need 100,000 gil, as well as 10,000 Tomestones of Scripture (updates with whatever the current tomes are at the time). It's actually a really cool mount, though -- it goes a little faster than regular mounts, and even has a "ring bell" action you can do. However, every time you dismount your bike gets "stolen" and you must craft another from scratch.

So wait, you want our characters to be Speedsters? I don't know if that would work with the lore. This isn't DC, but I could totally see a slightly faster sprint, that is on par with the bard ability (can't remember the name.)

Cactuar Skates, little Cactuar mount that holds you by the bottom of your heels allowing you the illusion of running fast because they are so tiny(but visible).

maybe exactly like that. a lot of players may like the comedic sprint but also would want a serious sprint and ninja sprint. i say why not make them 3 separate unlock-able mount types.
