Does anything connect Ivalice and the Isle of Val?

Val is gone and Ivalice is coming, or being returned to, if you please. Are there any little (or big) clues, in this game or elsewhere, that suggest a relationship between Ivalce and said isle?

It just hit me that they sound sorta similar. That's why I ask.

There is no context for Ivalice in XIV yet, so not that I am aware of.

The "Isle of Val" is, presumably, a reference to the Castle of Bal from V, which was [mis]translated as "Val Castle" in some localizations.

It's been confirmed that the world of FFXIV is not the world of any other ff game, that it is it's own unique world.

Yoshi has had to come out and flat out say its not and not connected to Vana'diel or Ivalice anymore than any other ff world, which is what player speculation has been since day 1.

This, and further more, names like Ivalice are simply fanservice references which are not the actual places plonked into Hyadelyn from their respective games - Crystal Tower is not FFIII's actual final dungeon but an Allagan structure, Costa del Sol is not the Spanish-themed port town from FFVII but a La Noscean seaside hamlet where rich lalafell go to have fun in the sun, Gold Saucer is not FFVII's giant metallic mushroom casino/themepark built on the ruins of Corel but a casino and resort run by the Manderville family etc etc.

So the upcoming Ivalice-themed raid is going to be exactly that, Ivalice-themed, not the Ivalice dumped in Hydaelyn for no reason. They're just references in name only.

This is the official statement by SE on the subject that Micah was referring to:

A: Maehiro: To be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice or even FFXI’s Vana’diel. They are not the same world in different dimensions or time—they are their own separate worlds. However, there are certain connections to people or objects that appear in these other worlds that figure into the story of FFXIV as it has been conceived and is being told.

Yoshida: We’ll be revealing more as we move forward.

If Ivalice is in XIV, it's probably no different than Doma. Doma was a kingdom in FFVI, in which all of its people were poisoned from within. Now it's halls sit empty. Ivalice will likely be inspired by FFXII and nothing more.

My theory is Omega (the devourer of worlds) devoured parts of Ivalice. THAT'S how we'll visit Ivalice.
I know Omega is a separate raid from Return to Ivalice but who's to say they're not connected in some ways storywise?

DS: There has been a lot of speculation about the name of the new raid “Return to Ivalice.” Is the name just homage to Yasumi Matsuno who will design the raid, or there is more to it?

NY: It’s definitely not an homage. It also depends on how the players will interpret it when they’ll actually enter the raid. In terms of the world of Ivalice, and whether or not it is connected to the realm of Final Fantasy XIV, it’s still a mystery, and that’s something that you will have to enjoy while playing the scenario.

Take that as you will, but I feel like they backtracked on what they said before.

It could be a backtrack, but I don't think anything is clear in that statement.

I'm moving my personal needle to "Danger Zone," but still holding to my usual "wait and see."
