I've found myself playing a lot of Diadem lately, in all honesty. I think it has to do with the fact that there is a good mix of easy and dangerous foes out there along with the allure of finding coffers for lockboxes. Going into one of the caves really has a thrill of, "What if I get caught in here?" There's something to be said for that palpable sense of fear going into an area that could easily kill you and slowly working through it. I wouldn't say make every mob aggressive and difficult, but the main overworld has all the ferocity of a mewling kitten when you're a well geared lvl 60 and I find little reason to go exploring for any length of time. No risk, no real reward... Not really fun in my opinion. Give us difficult places to delve into on the overworld that are optional, not tied to getting through the zone but there with some form of reward for reaching the bottom and I'd be happy. But then, that's my fun and my opinion, it's not for everyone.

PS. - I know we had the ARR Beast Tribe "bases" that were a bit challenging, but even those were a cake walk after a while. And no, instance dungeons are just not the same.

I don't really notice the mobs when I'm zooming around because I'm flying. If you want to avoid them you could use stealth.

I agree with the op, not everything should attack you, some things should be passive. I see a lot of people here wanting the world to be harder but those two things aren't the same. What you want is stronger monsters that are actually a challenge. There can still be some passive monsters and the ones that attack are strong, hell even the passive monsters can be strong if you attack them but it's good to have some variety. Ffxiv was good with that, monsters were strong but you had enough space to avoid them. If a monster cut you off or you were careless it could mean your death. It doesn't have to be that strong but my point is, there's a difference between having some monsters be passive and having the open world be more dangerous

I do believe there should be neutral enemies like how there were in ARR. There should be a mix of neutral and aggressive. When I say neutral I mean enemies that only attack if you attack them.

I'm sorry, but this an extremely overly grossed exaggeration. I played FFXI for around 11years. From NA launch up to near the launch of SoA expansion. I can say for certain, it's the same there as it is here. The key was to make friends, find a good Linkshell, and have people at the ready in order to do stuff. You had to actually communicate and find people with similarities and such, friend them, actually do stuff more than once with them, and then you'd have a group at the ready to do content.

Sure I met random people both here and there, but I had to befriend them, get to know them, eventually go through the motions of being friends. I HARDLY ever just found random people just "willing" to help in FFXI. Heck, I couldn't even find people to help me kill Fenrir when I wanted him for my SMN, I had to PAY people because at the time, none of my personal friends/Linkshells were high enough. And doing Fenrir fight wasn't something people just handed out like candy.

As far as having people to group up with and doing stuff with, especially when Heavensward came out, yeah I had my friends! I didn't have an FC at the time because mine had left the game right before 3.0 came out. But I still had people to do stuff with, explore, and have fun! They were my friends. You just have to put some effort into finding people with similar interests, times, and who are genuinely nice and want to do things together.

And as a side note, Not directed at you this time Korbash, but just in general FFXI wasn't as "dangerous" as you suspect. Especially after getting levels and what not. You had magic spells, ninjutsu, and even crafted items that allowed you to go undetected by the majority of mobs, you had quick outpost warps, teleports, warp/tele items, etc. to get to any far off place. Trust me, like I said I played for 11years. I definitely remember all the trials and tribulations as well as the fun and easy parts of that game as well as here.

I've never played FF XI. My first MMO is Saga of Ryzom, a french MMO. I was accepted into its closed beta, and I got hooked with MMOs since. I've never seen such a beautiful living breathing world such as Ryzom in any MMO, with day and night, seasons, animals emigrating during season, predators hunting and killing preys, animals sleeping, eating and peeing. Most everyone was nice, friendly, helpful, and generous. As for the ones not nice, they'd send me pervert stuff though tells whenever I played my female characters, I never got those when I played my male characters, so I decided to just play a male character. My second MMO is Guild Wars. My third MMO was City of Villains and fourth Lord of the Rings Online, and both had an awesome community of nice, friendly, and helpful people, on Landroval anyway for LOTRO. They both had a good mix of group and solo contents.

I hate this response so much. It's a video game. With magic. Danger doesn't mean much when mecha suits exist and you can be practically immortal with the right gear+healing companion.

Jade Dynasty circumvented this with Sky Blades which acted as flying mounts. Some areas, while dated, are still beautiful. And you can pretty much admire them from a distance via flight and staying just out of enemy reach. Possible in heavensward areas, unfortunately not so much 2.0. Another very old mmo I like to mention is Wonderland Online, which had random battles and with a special food item, you were granted exactly 1 minute immunity to all attacks. I do not see how it'd be so impossible that you can't gulp down a temporary super stealth item which would grant you a chance to just explore even with an A rank around. Slap on a debuff for attacking mobs/talking to npcs and done.

I mean. I wouldn't mind there being more "passive" creatures in the world. Actually introduce a believable ecosystem. Actually thinking about it, I find it hard to see every creature is a predator of eachother...

I don't feel everything being aggressive truly harms the state of affairs for the player, though. Not every previously uninhabited land (or recently/barely inhabited) needs to be effectively a giant park.

Though, on this particular topic, I wish there were more towns sprinkled across the world like Revenant's Toll and Idyllshire. "Large" outposts that offer a meaningful pitstop for players outside of major hub areas (and run around mounted in!)
