This is yet another reason why removing chat is such a terrible idea in Feast.
Marked targets most often denote a priority targets to attack; HOWEVER, there could also be marked just to make it easier to keep tabs on them during the match. This is especially useful to healers, because it makes it easier for them to see when an enemy target is gunning for them. 8v8, in particular, can get kind of cluttered, so it helps clear up where everyone is. In 4v4, a marked target is almost always a priority target for a number of reasons (high stacks, high threat, healer shut down, no defensive buff, shut down offensive buff, etc). In 8v8, it could be a kill order, or it could just be a way of putting some order to the chaos. In an ideal world, the person marking could use chat to explain their thinking. If FFxiv, you just have to guess because chat is supposedly evil.

yeah, someone might be marking them up so they get focused, but in a pug it doesn't mean ppl will "follow"
I’m not a PvP expert, but this is what I like to do. I always mark healers with O and X on my team. It's useful to see where the healers are at a glance to see if I'm running out of range of their heals. I then usually mark enemy to attack as 1. Usually whoever has most medals on the enemy team will get marked as 1. Ideally everyone should attack the marked player, but doesn’t happen all the time.
You have a point, however unless you make up a party and go in your technique may not work. Depending on your role, which I've seen several times, Tank usually sticks to Healer while others focus on support. Usually BLM/SUM >>>MNK>>>NIN and try to ignore range just because it's a waste of time unless they are bound. Sometimes you can just go with the flow and stick with the most competent person you can find.
That is entirely wrong. Bards and Machinists can explode almost anyone in just a few seconds. BRD can literally delete someone within a GCD. Left unchecked, I've torn through at least 3 people within 10 seconds. . . Ignoring them is an easy way to set yourself up for a loss. You have a point, however unless you make up a party and go in your technique may not work. What world am I in that ranged should be ignored @@You have a point, however unless you make up a party and go in your technique may not work. Ranged BRD/MCH are probably the most terrifying classes to heal against because they have the stupidest strongest burst that can literally 100-0. I always keep them focus targeted because I need to know when they are prepping in advance because they are so dangerous and harder to react to. It's good practice to CC these ranged classes when you see them setting up burst, so BLM/WHM Sleep, Tank stuns, or just line of sight them if they are targeting you or even just straight bursting them first. So no it's never good to just ignore the ranged, and I don't see what binding has to do with it.
