retainer jobs

i currently have 1 miner and 1 botanist retainer but i was wondering if it would be more profitable to switch one of them to a battle class probably monk since thats what i main. or if not if someone could give tips on what the best retainer setup for making gil off ventures is

I currently have the same as you but im no crafter or gatherer so they are stuck at 50 im thinking of doing the same as you and making them both the classes i play.

I like having a battle class retainer to get me stuff like wool, chimera mane, and leather. Farming mobs for that stuff sucks :P

In the past, it was more beneficial to have a gatherer retainer since the battle classes tend to not have the access to rare minions and such that are sometimes released. The dyes and such were something the battle classes could get but yeah, again, super rare. The minions were always a better gain overall. To make the best of both worlds, I would have both sets but if you're willing to dish out for another retainer, that would be the one I keep as a battle class.

It's probably the most profitable to have at least 1 of both.

If you're not a crafter yourself, though, you'll probably see much less profit overall.

Having a miner and a battle retainer would allow you to get gigantoad skins AND alumen every 40-60 minutes, letting you have a stream of leatherworking prisms to sell, which depending on the server, will net you more than either individually.

i have all classes at level 60 and while i do craft i dont go out of my way to craft the latest high end stuff to sell, i do sell glamours though lots of glamours but i usually just buy the mats from the beast tribe vendors since you can more then triple the price of them per glamour, so i'll keep 1 gatherer and 1 battle class thanks everyone

I'd say one gathering and one battle class is a good balance. Having a gathering retainer gets you reliable shards, crystals, and carbonized matter and other things a battle class cant get and are generally useful (and tedious to farm). Which gathering class is up to you and what you use more of. Me personally I went Botany and Scholar when I started. Not too long ago I decided to spring for a 3rd retainer for a Miner so now I have three bases covered. I don't see any real consistent benefit to having a fishing retainer so I haven't entertained paying for a 4th.

Can someone explain to me exactly how are retainers profitable, because I have them I maxed them and I just send them on quick explorations. Hardly ever I get good money out of em; what am I doing wrong?
