The best solution is really just to leave the existing classes in the game, even if they're just some archaic holdover at this point. There's really no value to reworking all of the pre-30 story stuff, to say nothing of the inevitable fiasco of trying to divorce SMN and SCH, just to tidy things up. Since they're obviously not interested in expanding on the class system, whatever, and just keep making new jobs with no base class.

The removal of classes it's likely not to happen.

The only thing i can think of they could remove it's the requeriment of a second class to level15 to be able to get the ARR Advanced job quests, as there is too much involved with the class system into the game to begin with. Lore, quests, npc... there is too much material in there to revamp it from scratch and leaving us only with jobs.

Pick your job at level 1. Want to be a summoner. Their you go. No more acn + bkm = smn

They could unify classes and jobs by imposing the same cross class limitations on both. For example (in the current system) only allow Arcanists to cross class a total of 5 skills from Archer and Thaumaturge, which is what Summoners do. Then once the job stone is obtained it is equipped automatically and permanently like in the case of AST/DRK/MCH, so that going back to being a class isn't possible. Once there is no difference in cross class skill limitations, there is no need to go back to classes and the transition is nothing but a change in the wording. Of course the unicorn quest should be made available to White Mages too. I quite like the class quests and I'm very opposed to removing content from the game, because it's both a waste of resources and makes the game smaller.

Classes - Jobs - doesn't much matter what you call them, they are more or less the same thing. That being said I personally find the classes as implemented much more fun than the jobs: The guilds, the early quests, huntlogs. Those are currently only available for classes in the game, not for the jobs.
Should they be stupid enough to actually remove the classes without including all of the current class content in the jobs, then I would seriously have to consider leaving the game - that would be too big a change for no good reason.

It actually matters in the lore. When you first pop into the game you are guided to one of the cities because you choose an starting class. To give an example, there are no Summoners in Eorzea, their arts are lost and you actually learn how to use them using the same principles of the Arcanist class in the quest involved and the guidance of the soul crystal. The jobs are an advanced version of the classes only a few know or its a lost knowledge (or in case of the Machinist, something new).

I'm not that attached to classes, so I wouldn't be devastated to see them go, however I do wonder what there is to gain from even doing that. Other than the understandably annoying SCH/SMN split, there's not that much harm in leaving the classes as they are, whereas a complete revamp would require a lot of resources that I would personally prefer they spent elsewhere or making new content.

If you'd rather play ESO with its trivial and meaningless class design perhaps you should leave and play that. Instead of trying to dumb down the game and homogenize it into something its not.

Get quite tired of reading the 'change the game entirely to suit me' threads and im essentially new to the community. So heaven knows how long term players, who like FF for what it is already would feel.

Its precisely because this game is nothing like that Zenimax progressive turd that I play it. Change it into Tamriel Mediocrity mode and I'll be gone in 2 seconds flat. Can imagine 90% of other people will be too when they see how hollow and trite a no classes/job system really is. More diversity and uniqueness, not less. Ty.
